Ziggnick85lund Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Hey guys and gals I'm in the market for a new fishing destination and was hoping I could find some help here. Let me give you a little background... As a kid the first 15 years of my life we took a yearly fishing trip to rice lake, Ontario Canada ( about 2 hrs north of toronto) I have many great memory's at the same cabins and same spots every year, the panfish were plentiful, and the other species of fish were sometimes hard to find but eventually you could get a few in the boat to feel satisfied without a whole lot of effort, unfortunately when the change came with the passports my family of 5 no longer could afford going on top of my two older sibling being into other things. Fast forward 10 years which will bring us to last year 2015, after many years of my brother and I saying we would like to go back, one of us took the plunge and made a reservation and the other followed suit, so in the second week of august we embarked back to rice lake and southview cottages like we did in the past, to be totally honest the amenitys were exactly the way we remember it as kids... unfortunate for us the fishing was not, the once plentiful panfish were under sized, and during certain parts of the day would turn off completly ( we never had to fight to find panfish before ) the bass were there and they were plentiful and we had a couple that were maybe in the high 2lbs range but nothing to write home about, and the walleye were non existent... out of the crew of 9 of us we got 1 keeper walleye... the problem that seemed to be is that when the passport ordeal took place it really hurt these resorts, the people they relied on from the states no longer were coming and really still arnt, they started tailoring their business to the Toronto crowed and the lake appears to have gotten alot of weekend traffic and has much fishing pressure Quote
Ziggnick85lund Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 So that brings me to today, before work writing this post from the kitchen table of my home just north of cincinnati ohio. We want to find a place that reminds of the canada we once knew, plentiful panfish for the kids and the big kids too, decent bass fishing, and decent walleye fishing and if you could throw I'm some decent other species fishing then that would be right up our ally we arnt looking to limit out every day, but a couple days out of the week would be nice... my brothers family of 3 boys and his wife and then myself and girlfriend would need 2 cabins. I myself would like to bring my newly restored 14' 1985 lund with a 40hp motor (deep V) while the brother needs a ponoon boat of some sort for all the people (or large boat) The cottages don't need to be anything fancy were used to dated stuff as long as it's clean, we are also used to bringing EVERYTHING you need with you and not leaving for a grocery store or eateries we cook and bring our own food... so a stove oven microwave is a must Lastly we would most likely be looking around the same time again 2nd week in August but have availability to move forward or backwards a few weeks here or there if you have a recommenation Thanks for any advice you can give! Bass_Fanatic Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Don't know if you'd be interested or not, but Toledo Bend is on fire right now. Come in May and you can catch big bull bream until your arms hurt, plenty of bass, and perch too. Cypress Bend has cabins to rent midland and is a very nice facility. Quote
RighteousFishing WI Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Sturgeon bay in the spring huge smallie huge walleye. If ur into huge bass you could always go to falcon lake. Quote
