Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 14, 2016 Super User Posted January 14, 2016 I'm really starting to grow tired of this... Sure would be refreshing for the league, an owner or a mayor to actually do something that's in the fans interests instead of all the empty talk. It's especially awesome when the fans are rewarded by having tens or hundreds of millions of their tax dollars be given to the league or a team, and then they're "thanked" by having to pay even higher ticket prices to come to the stadium they helped pay for. Something drastic has to happen to bring the money in sports back down to earth. Quote

Or even that team from Wisconsin? Not a chance. Those people would take a flame thrower to that stadium. Why did this happen? St.Louis couldn't or wouldn't guarantee the money the owner wanted. And with no guarantee he knows that with a fan base 4-5 times the size he will get what he deems he needs without one. He doesn't personally need the money, he's married to a Walton for crying out loud! So was it really about the money?? No, in my opinion it is all about exposure. .The NFL brass just couldn't take it anymore not having a franchise in the 2nd largest market. That's been an open sore for them since the Raiders left. So now they found the right combination of factors and now LA gets another one..Yeah I know the Rams started in LA, So what? There's no loyalty from the team to a fan base or to a city for that matter, no matter what they say. What about the guy who sells the popcorn? or takes the tickets? What about them? The Rams have had 4 winning seasons since 1990!! And those people sitill showed up and supported that team. Nobody cares..Nobody cares. And No I am not a St Louis fan, I'm a Bear fan..Born and bred Ok rant over Mike It will never happen to Green Bay, unless the team is sold. The chances of that happening are less than zero since the town/city of Green Bay owns the team. The Rams took the concession sales from Los Angeles to St. Louis. Now they are simply moving those jobs back to LA. It's not about loyalty. They are businesses, not friendships or marriages. Quote
BassnChris Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I like tradition. i don't like teams moving here and there. to be honest......I think I'm about done with them all. y'all can support 'em .......I'm out. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 14, 2016 Super User Posted January 14, 2016 The tradition includes teams being like gypsies. Teams have been moving for decades. They've been doing it, and will continue to do it. It's nothing new. Remember the Boston, oops, Milwaukee, oops, Atlanta Braves. Then there was the New York Giants baseball team that moved to San Fransisco, and the Brooklyn Dodgers who moved to LA. We also had the Washington Senators. Did I mention The Philadelphia Athletics who are now in Kansas City? In football, the St. Louis Cardinals moved west, and the LA Rams moved east to the city that the Cardinals abandoned. Al Davis played hopscotch with his Raiders team. So, the Milwaukee Braves in the National League moved to Atlanta, and another team from the American league, the Brewers opened shop in Milwaukee. This is just skimming off the top of my head. Heah, heah, get your programs. You cannot tell your teams without a program. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 14, 2016 Super User Posted January 14, 2016 At the end of the day teams move because of Money. Los Angeles has LOTS of it. 1 Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted January 14, 2016 Super User Posted January 14, 2016 I got sick of listening to all of it a long time ago. St. Louis spent millions on plans for the design of a new stadium to keep the Rams in St. Louis. The news said that the existing stadium should be paid off around 2021, and they still owe millions on that one. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 14, 2016 Super User Posted January 14, 2016 In the LA area and honestly, don't care. Don't want them or the Raiders. They left once, see ya, don't care if you come back. Not going to be a fan nor care about either team. I value teams that stay put and work hard to achieve what they have there......I can understand San Diego moving 100 miles north, not really relocating that far away from the fan base, but when you move a team half way across the country and leave in the mid 90's, then decide to come back and think you're going to get an open arms welcome from someone like myself, it's not going to happen. Now they are going to have to share a stadium with USC at the moment till a new venue is built which they will either share with the Chargers or Raiders depending on who decides, but if it's going to be the Raiders and Rams again, really don't care Both are poorly run, and aren't going anywhere other then when they decide in another 10 years that LA isn't the place they want to be and move again. In regards to the Rams going back "home".... well their real home was actually Cleveland, so that team has definitely done it's share of traveling. 2 Quote

Jake the Cake Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Problem was that Kroenke lives in California and wants to be back there. The city was willing to put up almost $500 Million for a new riverfront stadium but the other parts of it were to come from private investors, Kroenke, and the NFL. The NFL was going to have to pay $200 Million but they decided that was too much (their limit is $150M or something) so the proposal was deemed void. Kroenke went on record saying he tried to reach a deal with St. Louis but nothing could work so he packed up and went to LA. The only negotiating he did was "how much can St. Louis pay me to stay here without me paying a dime?" Unfortunately our city budget can't hold a flame to LA's budget and Kroenke knew it. He also said the STL economy wasn't fit to support a football team. Have you seen the Cardinals and Blues stadiums? we sell out almost every game every year, and the Rams were hardly ever "short" on attendance. Kroenke doesn't need to be a sports franchise owner, he buys cheap teams after they win championships and hopes they keep doing well without any actual managing on his part (Avalanche, Nuggets, Rams, Arsenal - European soccer, Rapids - American soccer). All of those teams have gone downhill because he doesn't want to step up and fire coaches and GM's and get his hands dirty. He just wants to sell tickets and merchandise and sit back and collect money. He's cancerous to every team he touches. Sorry for the rant, but I just had my hometown football team ripped away from me because of a greedy owner that doesn't care about quality fans (you know, the ones that made him millions of dollars while he was here). 1 Quote

I feel for you and lived through it when the Browns moved to Baltimore. It sucks. There's no other way around it. I was never able to fully root for the Browns 2.0 like I did prior to the move. It hurt even worse when the Ravens won Super Bowl 35. There is now a generation of Cleveland kids that only know the Browns as a punchline, and more and more people in Cleveland claim to be fans of the squeelers. d**n those yinzers. ? 1 Quote
