Nicely done! Pretty sweet that it still works. I caught an old round baitcaster probably from the 50's-60's era attached to the reel seat a few years ago. The reel's side plate was almost rusted through so it had been there a long while.

This would have to be my strangest catch of 2015

I once pulled in a spincaster while bank fishing that had a bullhead hooked on it... I figure the fish pulled the rod off a stick stand or something while the other guy wasn't paying attention.

Pulled the rod in and realized it was twitching too and ended up having to reel in twice to get the fish.

Caught this rod and reel in December.......that I dunked in April!  Reel cleaned up and works just fine, rod seems OK, as well.

Why did you throw it in to begin with?  ;)

Years ago, an old neighbor once caught a rod and reel combo that appeared to have been recently dropped over the edge. Upon closer inspection he found the the newly 'snagged' outfit to be nicer than the one he was using. He thought about releasing his but decided to keep both.

i caught a little shakespeare ultralight from under someone's dock last year.  fully rigged up with float and split shots and all....  after i got it in the kayak, i paddled over and gently placed it on the dock it came out of...  i assume some homeowner got a laugh about the rod they lost that came back!

Uh huh. Sounds like a good fisherman's tale for sure!

Must not have any ball bearings! Surely they would have rusted if it had some???

Post a pic of the reel cleaned up if you have one.

My strangest catch was also a frog, on a Tx rigged worm:

I've had the same experience twice with rods I lost.  The first one was dropped overboard while I was fishing with live bait on Lake George, NY.  I returned a day later with my SCUBA gear and found it.  When swimming back to the boat, I felt something tugging on the rod.  I surfaced and reeled in a bullhead.  The minnow that was on the rod when I was fishing must have died and laid on the bottom and a bullhead ate it that evening.

The second rod was lost overboard by a youngster I brought fishing on Lake George.  It was baited with a nightcrawler.   I returned to the spot with my dive gear and found the rod.  Again, there was a bullhead on the line!

Tight lines,

Bob

Like many others have mentioned, I have caught rods before.

However my oddest catch this year was out in the middle of a large lake, fishing an old road bed in about 18-20' of water. I was using a deep diving crankbait and bringing  it up over the old road bed and then back down the other side.

I ended up catching an 1/8th oz. Rooster tail. I hooked it right in the line tie loop.

It certainly wasn't the first lure I've caught, but to catch an 1/8th oz spinner so perfectly in 18+ feet of water was certainly a big surprise.

I did the same thing - I came back and dove for it the next day, but the water was extremely muddy;visibility was less than 12" and the bottom was full of sticks and branches that felt exactly like a rod...so I abandoned it, only to catch it eight months later!  If you love something, let it go....
