KVD Spinnerbait

I recall there being a spinnerbait quality thread on here sometime back; I just wanted to throw this out there - I tried a 1/2 oz Strike King KVD Finesse Spinnerbait (double willow) a couple of weeks back and that thing is a tank for the money.  After a torrential rainfall on Christmas weekend, I paddled up to a narrow creek channel which feeds into an impoundment where there was a shad feeding frenzy going on.  I chunked the KVD spinner in there and caught fish for a couple of hours, including a saltwater striper (not a huge one, but a solid fighter) and some four - five lb. LMB's and spots.  This thing took a literal pounding, and I would estimate that over the week or so I used it, I caught 40 - 50 fish on it.  Not saying I wouldn't have caught numbers on another spinnerbait, but I've bent wires, broken swivels, etc. on comparably priced spinners.  This one is still straight as an arrow after slow rolling on rocks, snags, battling fish, etc.  Trailed it with a Big Bite Cane Thumper, BTW.

Picasso, makes very good spinnerbaits also. I have some 15years old and still going strong,just replaced skirts is all ive done.

I've had the same experience with KVD spinnerbaits. They are absolute workhorses. The skirt will be completely gone long before the wire or blades fail. I used to hear that a spinnerbait can only catch 8-10 keepers before it is trash. Not true with these. I have one that has probably landed 80-100 keepers. The best part is it is incredibly easy to replace the skirt once it gets torn apart. Definitely worth the money over  the bargain brands.

I agree completely about the quality, perfect for pike. War Eagle seems to catch more fish for me though. Maybe it's the thinner wire? Maybe it's in my head? I'm sure the KVD's will last longer, but that's not always most important.

Iv'e tried a number of different brands through the years and finally settled on KVD and Stanley. They seem to hold up very well on bass but my lake has a lot of pike which tend to wreck spinnerbaits.

I haven't purchased a spinnerbait in at least a decade, all my spinnerbaits are older than that and all of them are Strike King.

I've had very little success with the KVD spinnerbaits, not sure why. I can catch them with War Eagle baits, but they're few and far between with SK.

Hard to go wrong with Strike King for sure. I like War Eagle as well.

 SK Burner has accounted for a ton of fish for me especially while zipping it around & through shallow water cover.

Don't forget that trailer hook.

Hmm...

I fish the Siebert Outdoors Cosmic. A few years ago I was fishing with Glenn on Pickwick during a BassResource.com RoadTrip when he hooked up with the biggest largemouth I have ever seen in real life. Glenn was throwing the Cosmic, white with double willow silver blades.

I agree. My go to spinner bait is the terminator t1. Have a thin diameter, light wire. I think that is what gives the bait more action than most. It is like the GYCB senko of spinner baits. Do you want to catch fish or do you want to complain about durability after catching fish. I know my answer.

I've been looking to add this exact spinnerbait or the War Eagle Screaming Eagle to my bag o tricks.  I was leaning towards the Screaming Eagle simply for the fact that the 1/2oz version (so says WE) has the profile of a 1/4oz bait.  What is the profile of the SK like?

The Burner has a compact, minnow shaped head design that allows for maximum speed and flash while reducing the drag. It features the Raz-R-Blade High RPM Blade which is a thin cut willow leaf that was designed to increase the revolutions of the blade, which increases the flash and keeps the bait from lifting like other willow leaf blades will do.  It excels in ultra clear water & high speed applications which is exactly how and where I use it.  It's not the most durable bait around and after a few mutant smallies hammer it at light speed it gets a little warped.  It comes in a 1/2 oz which is the size I prefer for longer casts.  

Tip - to add a little more weight which is good in every way, I wrap a short section of solder (from the head to the hook bend) tightly around the main hook shank ~

Just reading through a lot of reviews of various spinner baits. Obviously the opinion of certain people, but a much greater problem on cheaper spinnerbaits when the wire bends in the middle and cannot be completely repaired.

@Ads7633 Being that spinnerbaits are some of my favorite to throw....you can definitely catch more than 8-10 fish on one. I've got cheap ones that I've caught well over 100 fish on. Northerns up here love spinnerbaits too and they will mangle them more and you can still catch plenty of fish on them.

I am inclined to agree with you. I read these things as I was researching which spinnerbaits to buy because at the time I was trying to better learn how use them and preparing to buy a couple quality ones. I am assuming those whose opinion is they wear out after 8-10 bass are people who get picky about whether or not to use the bait again if the wire has been bent already.
