While Green Pumpkin (and Black & Blue for that matter ...) are always mentioned as favorite jig head colors - brown as a jig head color is rarely mentioned . Just curious how many throw a brown football jig or brown arky jig on occasion and what decides your choice between throwing green pumpkin and brown ? Thanks in advance ... I have a fair amount of pumpkin colored trailers which might do well with brown color jigheads .

I have a variety of colors, but I do not think it matters to the fish.

I agree with RW for the most part, it's all about what color your confident throwing. When I was a kid and my uncle first taught me about a pig and jig, it was all about brown and red or black and red with uncle josh pork frogs in either brown or black

I make my own jigs and paint them black or brown or pearl white and haven't ever painted them green in over 40 years. Brown goes with all the natural color skirts and trailers, black goes with black, purple or blue skirts or trailers and pearl white with white and Shad color skirts or trailers.

That is it...3 color or jig heads cover everything I use.

Skirt & trailer color is more important!

i've caught a ton of bass with non-painted heads!

I tend to lean towards brown jigs more often than not (PBJ to be exact). I do better on those so its more of a confidence thing for me. That said, If I see the craws on the body of water I'm fishing have a green hue, then I'll switch to a jig color that matches them.

If we're talking just jig heads then I don't think it matters on its own as much as the overall presentation.

I think this is really spitting hairs! I mean, I like having jigs with both brown and green pumpkin heads -- they sure look nice arranged in the box --  but aside from (very, very) vague compatibility with skirt and trailer colors, I don't pay much attention the precise head color itself.

Since it seems important enough to ask you should have a few of each.

I use black the most because I can buy it in bulk from Harbor Freight for cheap! I really don't think it makes much difference though.

Both. Always. The three colors I use are Green, Brown and Black. Those three and those three only. The skirt and trailer colors are usually the same. Purple strands gets thrown in with green and brown skirts for a little more flavor. The living image and barbwire tabs can really light a jig up even when using the basic three colors.

I use both GP and brown heads on a brown skirt depending on what I am trying to match. The link below shows the different crayfish in your area which I use as a color base. The craws around here are brown or brown with GP claws/tail (Rusty Crayfish) and I try to match them.

I can't tell the difference between them, so I'm never sure what color jig head I have tied on.:annoyed1:
