Going stir crazy...want to fish.

Yes, even in Florida, we are sometimes stuck in the house. Up here in NW FL, we have had a lot of rain over the past several weeks. The rivers are still 5-10 above normal levels. 

The creeks are too swollen to even bother with.  So, I got all this new fishing stuffs for Christmas, and can't do anything but practice pitching and reorganizing my tackle bags.

Checking out the new tackle/plastic baits purchased, going to dicks and academy to buy more fishing stuffs. Went a little overboard....maybe. Got enough 5xd/6xd/dd22 for the next several years, same with lipless.

It was in the 30's overnight here, chilly today. I'm a Floridian, 60 and below is cold, stay inside weather.  But I am ready to go fishing, to the point, I would torture myself in sub 40 weather and 20mph winds.  The more I can't go, the more I feel the need to buy more fishing stuffs I don't need right now. lol

Anyone else with me on this?

I understand your starting to go STIR-CRAZY, but no sympathy from up here in New England.  Lures are starting to bounce off the water....    

I worked outside all day.  While I was dressed for it, I had to bring my extension cords inside to defrost before I could coil them up.  My air nailer wasn't terribly happy either.

Everyone I know in NW Florida has been fishing for and catching some solid reds and trout lately.  Even in the mid-Atlantic guys are still out fishing for stripers and tautog.  Stop being a sissy and go fishing already!

Action has been terrible from the bridges this year. In the bays, good at times, but not great by any means, from what I hear locally. 

No boat for the bay, so I am stuck on the bridges. Last year and year before was good for the bull reds on the bridges.

We actually had cold weather in oct.-nov. last year, not this year. sheepshead are about the only thing off the bridges right now, and they are hard to come by.

I went out bass fishing in NE Florida this past weekend while visiting family up there near Jacksonville. Yeah it was rainy, and cold (in the 50's) ok, it was cool, and the wind was howling, but I put the wind to my back and went anyways and managed to catch two bass in less than 2 hours. I probably would not have stayed that long if I had not caught a bass on my first cast! And it went downhill from there, but so what! I was fishing dam it! Wind knots and all- & shivering too, but at least a couple of fish were biting.

I could see bigger bass in the crystal clear water, but they were not interested.

I just saw on the news it is going to be 77 degrees this Saturday here in the Orlando area so just maybe this weekend is looking pretty good for some bass fishing...

It was 40 (for a high), and raining on me last Thursday. Lake was about a foot high and stained from all the rain we've had. Still managed to catch a couple bass along with several whites and wipers and a few catfish. If you want to go bad enough, you'll go.

The stir crazy thing happens to me a lot, I pass the time the same as you in some ways, I practice my pitching and flipping, there is not a whole lot of need for the flipping but it's still good to keep up with it for when its needed, I usually just study lake maps for new places I want to investigate on the next trip out, no matter how well you think you know a place or how often you frequent a body of water there is always something new to find.

I can sympathize but I can't completely relate.  Got a nice warm water lake (power plant) about an hour away.  It's got some decent Stripers but more known for Catfish and Crappie.  At least it's something!!!!!!

    I don't let the weather affect my decision to go fishing.I have fished in the cold,during heat waves,+35 mph winds,nonstop rain,and other less than favorable weather conditions.If I was up North I would go Ice fishing, it looks fun and is something I want to try some day.

I'm from Crestview, and yeah, the fishin has been killing me... rather, the lack of fishing. I'm ready to hit it... but, man, its so hard to get a bite... any thoughts about what i can do? I have a distinct lack of a boat, however...

Just keep at it, patience. I went out yesterday in Perdido bay with a friend. Got soaked and froze, not even a bite. Was hoping for some specks and reds, but got a goose egg for my troubles, lol.

If you ever want to go to dreamstrike, let me know. I got a jon boat, good for 2 people.

I'm going crazy too. Most of the small ponds I fish are frozen solid and probably aren't going to thaw till Spring.

My nearest lake that isn't frozen is probably a good hour drive away, so that precludes "evening after work" fishing. And my Saturdays have been packed with work.

Some Saturday here I'm just going to have to head up.

Dreamstrike? please excuse my ignorance... I've never heard of it. Yeah, I went out today... workin a small jig... got bumped a couple times, but, they were so light that I thought they were just the jig draggin off grass at first.

You've got options though. A) throw a vision 110 and rave about it being the go-to winter bait on Anna, B ) hop blades and spoons C) crowd around dike 3 with everyone else

I like to set myself apart from everyone else though LOL !!

I like being around Dike 3 early in the mornings or later in the evenings when the striper's get active, that can be a lot of fun this time of year !!

The largemouth were the only ones doing anything there yesterday morning and evening. Didn't see the first striper surface

That's ok, I'm all about dem largies anyway, stripers are most likely more active in the mouths of the major creek entrances up lake right now anyway, haven't been over there for a few months so I'm not really sure, might come over on Sunday and do some lookin around on the ledges and some of those long points in that area, not sure if I will have an open seat or not if I do get the opportunity but if I do you are more than welcome to join me if you wish.

I went stir crazy back in November up here in the north.  Compound that with a knee surgery which is keeping me off the ice and I am going absolutely bonkers.  I made more jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits etc.  I reorganized my tackle ... and then re-reorganized it.  I am even learning how to tie feathered trebles and flies and I don't even fly fish!  A wooly bugger.
