I have been throwing swimbaits regularly lately to see how cold before they stop chasing them. Water temp was 40 and air was 22 with the wind chill. Threw a squarebill and a swimbait and the swimbait is what they ate. Ended up catching 3 in an hour and lost a couple.

I used hammer smallies with paddle tails in the river down to about 38 deg.

.3"Cocohoe minnows avacado/red glitter by H & H lures was a favorite.

Was fishing on a cold, cloudy morning earlier this month. We had struck out all morning using chatterbaits, pig & jigs and swim jigs with various trailers. On the way back to the dock, we switched to a 6" swimbait with weighted hook (Texas rigged) and caught 6 bass in just over an hour with an average weight of 5.4 pounds. Big bass bite big baits. It seems that swim baits we're the only bait the bass wanted to eat that morning.

Will these work in dirty water? By dirty, I'm talking choc milk to mud. If so,what is your strategy?

Thank you

Bass still have to eat in muddy water and baitfish don't become easier to find in those conditions either. They wouldn't be my first choice in really muddy water, but they'll still catch fish if you stick with them.

In muddy water I try and find the thickest cover I can, and then throw the bait right next to it.
