Anyone ever run their boat with only one? Does just 1 pole weaken the holding power, as in can 1 pole hold the boat in place?(of course it will be much more prone to pivoting)

17' Aluminum Tracker if it matters

Thanks

You shouldn't have any issues, it will pivot though depending on current and wind.  But you should stay put.  Only have a single Talon on the 20' Champion I have (for the moment until I can afford another one late this year.)

Thanks, that was my logic. One this year and one next if the pivot drives me insane. I think if I am smart about how I place it, that should minimize some of the swing.

I use a single Talon on a 20ft boat. IMO unless you bed fish a lot or need to hold the boat nose forward in heavy current, I feel it is not needed. As far as the pivot, use the pivot to your advantage. I can pull in between 2 docks and use the trolling motor in conjunction with the anchor to fish both docks without moving the boat. You can always order 1 and if you feel you need a second at a later date, then order it.

Unfortunately I'm not lucky enough to own one yet, but quite a few guys in my club have them. 1 is nicer than none, but with one there is more pivoting which may not be a big deal depending on how you fish. You shouldn't have issues with it not holding with just one though. 2 will hold you exactly where you want to be though. Even at the dock two can be great, pull up to the dock, drop them both and your boat stays right there. Doesn't touch the dock, no need to tie it up either.

Nice ~ Never thought about that - sounds like a very handy option for the solo boat launching human.

They're nice for things like that! If the dock is busy no need to wait for a spot with two. Find yourself a tiny spot and nose in, drop the poles and step off the bow. I fish quite a few tournaments and when staging for takeoff they can be a great thing. While wind or current is forcing everyone to drop in and out of gear trying to hold positions and not hit anyone else, a lot of guys drop their power poles and just sit there. On a lot of the little lakes around me the landings don't have docks and the area to beach your boat is small and right next to the landing. If you aren't careful the current created from your trailer coming out of the water can push your boat off the bank (don't ask me how I know this haha). That's another situation where power poles would be useful. They aren't just for fishing

I fished as a non boater for 2 years and basically either launched boats for people and ended up have 4 keys to vehicles or if they had shallow water anchors I would ask for the wireless controller and just drop then down to hold the boat, especially the guys who go way to fast backing in the water.

This ^ I only have 1 on my boat as well and don't think I'll be adding another anytime soon. Think about how you want to approach your spots and how the boat will pivot and you'll be fine. I load and unload my boat solo more times than not and having even 1 pole is a huge benefit.

I don't have boat but hired guide several months ago who also fished tournaments and his boat had one, he had two but took one off. soory can't remember why but he did say he thought one was better.

I've had one and now I have two. One is great but two is twice as good :) I like to fish against the wind is the main reason I say that.

Go to Youtube and search "Dave Lefebre Boat Launch" and you can watch Dave launch his boat solo and use the shallow water anchor remote to hold the boat at the dock and he never has to get out of the truck.
