MidwestAngler93 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Hey just had a question not sure how I am going to word it but I have a cheap pelican kayak that I got for like $150. It has no rod holders or even a compartment for my tackle. Is there any restrictions on building my own rod holders or anything like that in tournaments I have not found any. Also does anyone have any tips on how I could modify my kayak? Not sure if this question made a whole lot of sense but anything will help Thanks, Jake aka MidwestAngler93 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 10, 2016 Super User Posted January 10, 2016 I have never seen any type of limitations on modifications to your kayak for fishing. The only caveat is adding propulsion as some do have rules regarding that. 1 Quote
Murrica Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 There are no rules typically on what you can do mod wise. The only restrictions typically are no motors. Pvc and bungee shock cord is your friend when it comes to modifying your yak. Check out youtube for some ideas. 1 Quote

sully99 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I fish the KBL tournaments in Illinois and the only restriction is length. Kayaks have to bo at least 10'. Quote
E. Guido Soda Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 In the kayak tournaments (which include canoes) I fish around here, the rules are pretty simple: - no motors / electronic propulsion - no "mothershipping" (being towed by motorized watercraft) - PFD's at all times - one rod (w/ artificial lure only) in the water at any given time We can even fish from the bank as long as the kayak / canoe stays in sight. Pictures on the trough must be taken from the kayak / canoe with the mouth of the fish frame left, belly side facing you and your token visible in the picture. As for mods, there are no rules on them whatsoever, as long as they do not include motorized propulsion. Enjoy! Quote
