SoFloBassFiend Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Under normal conditions I use 30 lb braid or heavier on my current reels. My question is this. Due to the anti backlash features of the SV system would it be possible to use lighter line in the range of 10-14lb braid for the smaller diameter to throw lighter baits and not have to worry about the lighter braid digging into the spool and worrying about backlashes? Hogsticker Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I use 15 lb. Smackdown on one of my Alphas SV with no issues. The reels are not backlash proof. They still can do it, but it's rather hard. The spool itself isn't going to make any difference regarding digging. Hard casts, freeing snags, not paying attention are the factors with digging issues. I've never had light braid digging issues with a smooth, coated braid. I know people do, but it's my opinion the majority of that is user error. The shallow SV spools are wonderful for casting light baits in just about any platform that will accomodate one. 1 Quote
John G Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Hogsticker, will the SV105 spool that Hedgehog sells work in a Zonda68? I think yes but want to be sure. Quote

If you hit the inquiry button on the product and ask them they will let you know for sure. They have always responded in 24hrs to my questions. 1 Quote

poisonokie Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I use 20# super slick on my sv spools without issue, but those spools are on light BFS setups, so the rods are softer and the drag is lighter, which prevents the line digging in. Quote

Unless there's other things you want from hedgehog studios. 1 Quote
