Avalonjohn44 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Has anyone tried the Prizm Polarized lenses, either shallow or deep? Any reviews? I can't find a pair anywhere to try on, and reviews online are usually from fanboys for or against brands, not too much meat to them. Any info is appreciated. Quote
MDBowHunter Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Do your self a favor and go get a pair of Costas with the 580g lens and don't look back. They are leaps and bounds above any glasses that Oakley puts out.. 5 Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 Thanks, tried Costa but I prefer Oakley - never had a better lens than the polarized G30. 2 Quote
Philly fishing Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Yes both are cool just up to your preference Quote
XzyluM Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I ordered the deep and shallow since I get them for cost. I never did get a chance to fish with them because I did not like the Flak Jacket frames. The lens were much brighter than their normal polarized lens and clear. I was going to order another shallow set after seeing them release a set with the Five Square frame, but buddy said he wasn't ordering anymore because their quality wasn't what it once was and everything now says "Made In China". All that on top of them giving him grief when trying to get replacement lens and he has decided to drop them once inventory gets cleared. I'm still trying to get him to order me the shallow Five Square frames before he drops them; hard to pass them up at cost. However, if I was paying retail, I would likely look elsewhere. Quote
XzyluM Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Checked with buddy today and he was willing to order me a pair, but had a couple in stock that was mostly the deep water style. I tried them on again and the lens were much more vibrant than the normal polarized lens. I'm wanting to try them while fishing and will probably grab a pair this weekend to see how they perform. One thing that annoys me is they have very few frames that I like with the Prizm lens and the ones they do have are usually polished black instead of matte which looks so much better. Really liked the Fuel Cell frames that are similar to the Gascan. They only have a deep water lens, but I have read that the deep water lens is better for everyday use. The lens are a bit lighter than they show online. 1 Quote
XzyluM Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Had a chance to get on the water with these today. Pretty impressed with the lens to be honest. The clarity was excellent and really made everything pop compared to my normal polarized black iridium lens. These lens definitely make your vision look like it is in high definition. First thing I noticed was that they do a good job of removing the glare from the water. With naked vision, the water surface looked like a mirror. However, with the Prizm lens, the water was really clear and natural. I was actually surprised because the water was heavily stained today with a bit of wind. Details was a lot more noticeable as well. I saw a lot of bait fish and baby turtles almost instantly. I most likely wouldn't have noticed these until awhile later without these lens. I was also able to see everything going on much clearer under water in the shallows. I probably had them on for a good 7 hours today and my eyes never once felt strained. I noticed some of the reviews complained about the lens fogging up in warm weather. It was in the 80s today and I never had to remove them to clean the lens. Overall, I was happy with the deep lens and decided to keep them for my personal use. The shallow lens might perform even better for freshwater, but I'm not a fan of any of the current frames with the shallow lens. Hope that helps with your decision. 2 Quote
THE_Vue's Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Xzylum do you have any 580's to compare to Oakley's deep or shallow lens? Quote
XzyluM Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I don't have any 580s to do a direct comparison on the two lens. I do have some friends that wear Costas though. I will check with them and see if anyone is using the 580s and see if I can compare the two on the water. Will post back if I manage to get ahold of a pair. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 Awesome review, sir. As soon as I can afford them, I'm grabbing a set of Prizm Deeps. Quote
Derek Petter Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 I have the shallow waters and I am in love with them Quote
Alan Reed Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 What is the difference between the shallow waters and the deep waters? 1 Quote

The shallow waters are more designed for freshwater and fishing rivers is kinda their claim to fame if I can't remember. I haven't tried the deep waters, but they are designed for saltwater offshore fishing. The shallows have a green tint with amber on the interior Quote
bh91 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 i thought shallow was less than 20 feet of water and deep was 20+ feet, fresh or salt Quote

Frisbie385 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I have the Straightlink with the shallow water lenses. I really like mine and have no complaints Quote
TreyDrier Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I have a place on the water in S. Florida on the Gulf side. I own Oakley Radar sunglasses and the lens needed to be replaced (years of wear and a couple scratches). I decided to order the prism deep water polarized lenses. Just fyi, I have many Oakley and Maui Jim sunglasses. So I ordered the deep water lens off Amazon. I have to say they very impressive lens. As the other reviewer stated, what they do extremely well is eliminate the sun glare coming off the water. Keep in mind the sun is intense in S. Florida. Now they are not xray lenses that magically allow you to see deeper into the water. They eliminate the glare, provide crisp clarity and more vivid natural colors. They have a blueish mirror like coating on the outside of the lens. These are the best lenses I own. They are also great for everyday use because the clarity is superb. Whether you're boating, driving or just laying around the pool these are excellent lenses. Oakley Radar frames are fantastic (my favorite) for boating since they are wrap around, stay on your head even in moderate winds and very comfortable. I highly recommend the deep water Prism lens and the radar frames for boating, fishing or just wearing around town. Quote
Mitatimus Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Dumb question. I like both shallow water and ruby lens colors. For fishing color-wise, does it make any difference shallow water vs. Ruby? Is one color better than the other for seeing better into the water or is it just a matter of preference? Thanks Quote
r3825 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I think the shallow water works best, I switched to Costa but if they weren't an option I'd stay with shallow water lense Oakley Quote
evo2s197 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I have the Oakley Prizm in the deep water lens on Holbrook frames, and I fish shallow or deep, they are also prescription strength, I regularly see fish and objects below the surface that others with me cant see, and a few have Costas or similar. DomQ Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I've got both and LOVE THEM!!! They a clear and look great!! Quote
FlashIICrew Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 Has anyone compared the Oakley Maritime Prizm v. the Deep Water Prizm? Interested to know the difference in the ability to see into the water and spot fish. Quote

Thanks Can't believe I missed this reply. The best pair of fishing sun glasses I ever had was a pair of BPS ruby lenses. Haven't been able to find a good replacement for them, does anyone make a pink/ruby lens anymore? Still using the Oakley G30s and some Oakley violet/iridiums. Quote
Luke Barnes Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 I have a pair of the deep water polarized prizm ones and love them. Had them for many years and want new lenses but might as well buy a whole new pair for the price of authentic lenses. 1 Quote

I have the Split Shot frames with the Prizm Shallow Water lenses. They give great contrast and are super light. They're definitely better than your average polarized lenses. I want to get a pair of Costas to compare, but I really like the Oakleys. The only downslide for the Oakleys has to do with that particular frame, since the original leash started to rust a bit.
