Need a little advice

I noticed my line gets a slight kink from going over my top guide once I put my rod glove on and it's stored away for a little bit. Does this happen to you guys? Do you guys re-tie or do you still fish with it? Can I prevent this at all?

It happens to mine sometimes. I usually just fish with it to because im a broke college kid and try to get the most out of my gear, but if Im fishing a tournament where money is on the line, you might want to re-tie depending on your technique... Better safe than sorry. Re-tying never hurts.

Cut a foot or so below the kink in the line and tie a new knot . Check the line for nicks,if it's damaged remove that portion and tie a new knot.Spool up with new line if the line is old or in bad shape .

I don't recall which line it was, either copoly or fluro, but when I stretched it, any kinks disappeared.

If you don't have our Florida weather where you are at and won't be fishing with it until spring, then come spring time you will probably have a full reel of line memory! A corkscrew of line will come off that thing in the spring.

I get these kinks from storing rod over night. It is not a kink really. Go ahead and fish, it will go away and does not hurt the line. When you store your rod, it will be back over night. I have caught a crap load of fish on first cast with this "kink" without line break.

Cut it off and retie, that can cost you a fish. The reason it happened is you cranked down too hard with something tied on and held by the hook keeper, I'm guessing that part by the way, but it explains the kink because it was under pressure are a hard angle. If you want to avoid that, back off your drag all the way and your line will be relaxed instead of under pressure and you won't have anymore kinks.

I've always ignored the kink myself. However, you can minimize it by not keeping your hook in the rod's hook holder tightly. Loosen the reel drag and just barely snug it up instead. Then just fish!

i get the same thing from time to time and have not seen any negative effects yet...

I've never had a problem with that little kink in the line.  Normally after a cast or two it goes away.  I try and keep my leaders short enough to where it doesn't hit the top guide when I put it in the rod sock.  But I agree, if it's going to be a long time inbetween trips, better off just accepting you're going to have to respool or fish braid and put a new leader on when it's time to go fishing.
