I am thinking about getting a Shimano metanium xg for football jigs. My concern is line capacity. Will the shallow spool hold enough line(15# flourocarbon) for bombing those 3/4 ounce jigs into 20+ feet of water? And just on a side note, what flourocarbon line do yall like the most?

I have 14 lb Sunline Sniper on my Met XG and don't have any capacity problems. I don't know for sure how much line is on the reel but I would guess 80 - 90 yards.

AND...welcome to BR !

Welcome aboard!

You could also spool up with 20-30#
braid and tie on a leader.

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

I do not use Fluorocarbon line so can't help you there.

The Metanium xg is a fine reel but if plan on dumping the spool on every cast, just make sure your tag end knot is very good.

I didn't think about that. Thank you!

I use my Metanium for throwing 4.8" Fat Impacts on a 1/2oz jig head and it bombs those things out there. I have never had issues with getting even close to spooled while using 14lb. Sniper.

With that, if you're truly concerned, check around online and you'll find there are deep spools available for the Metanium in Japan.

Excellent reel. Might also consider the Chronarch Ci4+HG. I have both and I think it might hold a wee bit more line. Both reels are about equal from a performance standpoint, in my opinion.

You should be in pretty good shape from a line capacity standpoint, like others have said.

That is... unless you're fishing off of these. Could present a problem.

I have 15# Seaguar InVisX on one and no problem whatsoever. Two other Metaniums have 12# and yet another with 40# braid. I haven't gone heavier with either Fluoro, mono or braid.

I tried 7# sniper on my shakeyhead/dropshot rod and the line felt really stiff and I didn't like it but I will have to give it another try because everyone seems to like it. And I am a huge believer in Shimano. I have always fished with them!

Sweet! And if the line issue ends up being a concern I will look into the deeper spools. Thank you!

Hahaha! Thanks, I was thinking about getting a chronarch but I was like what the heck if I'm going spend nearly $300 on a reel I might as well spend the extra $100 on a metanium.

You're going to fit in just fine around here with that attitude.

12# FC here Sniper or Assassin on mine. However for Footballs I'd probably use Shooter and go up in test if there's zebra mussels.

Great reel I love mine. However the palming takes some getting used to body of reel is longer than all my other Shimanos.
