Been looking at upgrading to a newer reel. Right not Im currently using Zebo Omega Pro closed face reel on an Abu Garcia Ventas rod 7ft fast action med heavy rod. So I looked online and found the STX 3rd gen for 147 with free shipping so it will be here tomorrow.

Anyone use this setup?

Also this will be my first bait caster reel, what line should I put on it for leaning  Braid, Mono and size? From what Im reading I thought of going with a mono 10b backing to a 30b braid

The line you've selected should work fine.  However, for someone else to make any meaningful suggests would require more information.  For example: lures being used and type of cover.

For your first baitcaster I'd go with cheap mono. Practice casting in the yard to get the hang of it. You will get some backlashes so be prepared for that. That's why you want to use cheap mono so if it gets ruined, you aren't hating yourself for it. Best of luck to you!

Cool man! They aren't as hard as ya think. But still I would use a mono around 12 to 14 lbs because it's easier to cast. Just cast smooth and easy.

Thanks, Ive used one in the pass but never owned one, The ones I used were very cheap models and had poor braking systems so I fig if Im going to buy one I should get one with a great braking system to assist with my leaning.

For lures. mostly using Rapala shad rap deep and shallow or other crank baits, jigs noting extremely big,   From the reviews I saw its a great over all reel for all types of fishing.

Be a bit careful with the shad raps.  Generally those are pretty light cranks that would be challenging on baitcasting gear, especially someone relatively new to baitcasting.

My 2 Abu rods are heavier than rated.  Most are from what I've read.  That being the case...and using braid....be sure not to use too much drag with treble hook lures.  Don't know what that rod is rated for....probably in the 1/4 to 1 oz. range, but if it is anything like my Abu rods I'd keep lure weight up around 3/8 oz.

Got it in today, put some cheap 10LB mono on it with 1/4 oz on it, set the brakes to max and started casting. wow that Infinity brakes make it almost impossible to cast past 10ft so I detuned the mag to half way and I'm getting low 30s but not very accurate. Its going to be a learning curve thats for sure.
