Joe H. Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Does anyone else on here enjoy playing chess? I play way too much online need to get back to the forums 1 Quote
Evan K Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Yep, it's a seasonal hobby of mine, usually starts in the winter when most other things are hard to do. What site do you play on? Do you know your approximate ELO rating? 2 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted January 5, 2016 Super User Posted January 5, 2016 I used to play at a local club but the outdoorsman in me got too bored with it. I wasn't that good, I think when I quit I had a USCF of 1350 or something. But I enjoyed it a little while I did it. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 5, 2016 Global Moderator Posted January 5, 2016 I play when I can find someone else who will. Seems fewer and fewer people play now a days. Mike 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted January 5, 2016 Super User Posted January 5, 2016 I like playing chess, I'm not good and don't really have an understanding of the strategies but its still fun to sit down and play other people who are just as bad as me haha 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 5, 2016 Super User Posted January 5, 2016 Sometimes my bass fishing feels a lot like a chess game that I just can't win. A-Jay fishes shallow ~ bass go deep. A-Jay fishes deep ~ Bass go shallow. A-Jay throws topwater ~ Bass are eating Crawdads. A-Jay throws a jig ~ bass are eating frogs. Some days I swear I can even hear them whispering "Checkmate ~ Doofus". A-Jay 10 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 5, 2016 Super User Posted January 5, 2016 I never really got into the game and I know I really would like it for the strategic aspects of it. My daughter and I have been playing backgammon since she was 8. Sadly, she's gotten older and we don't get to play as often. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 5, 2016 Super User Posted January 5, 2016 I play a little. For a while I was playing the chess game that came with Windows. 1 Quote

I'm about 1300 on online chess. If I'm on in the near future I'll send you a challenge. Quote

Mike That's why I love playing online. I want to be careful not to promote this site too much because they have a forum too and I don't want to violate any rules on here but chess.com has almost 14,000,000 users, it's really easy to find a game. I'm playing 55 daily chess games right now. 1 Quote

Ya blitz and bullet go too fast for me to develop good strategy and tactics, plus I have ADD which doesn't help 2 Quote

Missourifishin Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I don't play online. But I have friends and acquaintances who play, and I get a few in person games in per month on average. I like to think I'm pretty good. But there is something about the perspective of how you see the board and pieces on a computer screen that seems to throw me off. It's like I can visualize and plan better when I'm looking at the board in person. 2 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted August 23, 2022 Super User Posted August 23, 2022 I am horrible at chess . Every time I try to think several moves ahead my opponent doesnt cooperate . I play aggressively and get it over with . I'm likely going to lose anyway , why prolong it . The Netflix show "The Queens Gambit" Is my favorite series . I watched it three times . 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 23, 2022 Super User Posted August 23, 2022 I learned chess at an early age from my dad, played on the high school team, even played some in college. Wife bought me a black/white onyx set and we played some near the beginning of our marriage (32 years now), but got discouraged cause I'd always win. Set has been in the closet for 25 years now...just haven't found anyone to play with... 1 Quote
jbmaine Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Wife and I play from time to time. Good mental exercise. Quote
