Mend-It

I've been meaning to give this product a try for a while now as I've heard really good things about it.  Those that have used it: is it better to save baits after a day of fishing then fix once home or can it be done on the boat mid-fishing or perhaps both?

How long does it take?  Any downsides? Is the repaired part a weak spot or does it hold up like 'normal' - I understand that where it ripped originally by default of using it is likely where it will tear again.

You can save for later or do a repair on the spot (and wait a minute or 2).  If done right, there are no weak spots.  I've even used it to make baits.

Downside?  They can go bad if left in an unheated garage through a VT winter (thicken).  The best "non-tackle" fishing purchase I have made.

Excellent product, it will pay for itself in a few weeks. It works best on plastics with less salt. Mend It isn;t like superglue, so no crusty seams and no accidently sticking your fingers together... Mend It is a solvent that temporarily liquefies (re-catalyzes is what the bottle says) the bait where it touches. Press the two halves together and it congeals just as fully as if the bait had never torn after a few minutes to set.

Let the plastic/ tear dry; apply some (a little) mend-it; hold the tear together for a few seconds; and leave it alone for a few minutes. Should be good to go after that.

Mend-It is a great product as you can tell by the other posts.  It will not work with Zman baits though, but then again, you can't wear them baits out anyways.  But I've used it to repair Hudds, make new baits, and repair them.  Be aware, this isn't a glue, it melts them back together so if you have rips apply, let sit.  Then flip over and apply again.  If you pull on it while applying you will have issues with it melting and becoming worse.  But it is a great product and always have a bottle with me.  Plus it doesn't stick to your fingers.

Definitely a must-have.  I don't use it so much for soft plastics (only certain expensive ones) but it is a life saver for hollow body frogs.  My favorite kind are expensive and I fix them again and again.  Toothy critters be damned!

It is great! I usually bring the baits home unless I'm low or out of that bait and then a repair on the spot is needed.

It's a great product that's very effective when used properly. I mainly save mine for swimbaits but I'll use it to repair pricier plastics too.

It works pretty quickly and pretty well but it really depends on where you are applying it. For my line thru baits where the hole gets ripped into a tear it's a temporary fix and I have to use it throughout the fishing day. It is a good product. I It might have more time to cure between trips so it's a good time to repair any tears or rips for sure. No real downside that I can think of. Takes very little time, a minute or two max. I try to make sure it's good and try before I cast again. Get some! It's worth it for sure!

In addition to fixing my beat up plastics, I also use it on my albright knots to smooth it going through the guides. Great stuff.
