I'm considering stepping out and getting a St. Croix Avid or possibly a Legend Tournament. Are these comparable to the Falcon Caras and Lowriders? One thing I love about my Falcons is they are really light weight and sensitive.  I'm not sure what action/power I would be getting yet, probably something to use for T-rigging since I know that will allow me to use the rod a lot to see if I like it.

I've tried every brand out there except the mid-upper level Croix rods.  I know they have a big following on this site.  Anybody have a suggestion for a St. Croix starter in the Avid or Legend Tournament? I have a Mojo Bass that's been ok for the price point.

I like my ac66mf for square bill and jerk bait fishing.  I love my LEC70MHF for jigs and light punching.    I own many more but these are my favorites!

I have 2 Avids and 1 legend tournament. You won't be disappointed. They're light and I they are very sensitive, especially the tournament. Honestly, the best thing you could do is go to a store and hold them and see how they feel in your hand.

Nobody keeps them in stock around here, TW, GM and BPS all stay stocked up on saltwater stuff.

Edit: Gander Mountain may have some Avids, but the store in Spring, TX is a pretty sad place.

Ah, I see. Well I know it's hard to go on pure word of mouth.

I don't have any experience with Falcon rods so I can't compare them. All I know is how much I love my St Croixs. Theyre both very light and amazingly sensitive. The legend is a but higher end so it's a bit lighter and more sensitive. I use my LTB for everything finesse: tubes, worms, sebkos, craws, etc and it never fails to amaze me. It's easily my favorite rod.

The legend tournament series has a 7' 1" MF rod .adequate for fishing plastics that would be a great t-rig rod.

The only Falcon I've used is the BuCoo, so I can't help you there. I just want to add that a lot of guys on here recommend the Avid X over the Avid, so I'd check that out as well.

i would agree with a lot of guys that the avid x feels like a much more balanced rod than the regular avid, but that's my uneducated opinion.

It would be happier with an Avid, they are great rods, the legend rods are even better, the Legend Elite and Extreme in my opinion have no equals. You will be very happy with the Avid, and I am sure quite surprised with the LT!!

Check the St. Croix site.  Last year's Legend Elites are in the bargain bin for under $250. And they are great feeling rods.

I have a falcon low rider 6'10" MH fast and an St Croix Premier 7' MH Fast. I like them both but the Premier is definitely stiffer than the Falcon.

I believe those are all 2 piece rods left.

I've noticed that even my 7ft MF Mojo feels stouter than my MH Falcons.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, going to try an Avid X and go from there. Have to sell a few rods first. I love my Falcons but I just don't feel they are advancing like some others, so I want to try something new.

Don't get too hung up on power and action labels between brands. It's all subjective. A MH St croix will have the power and lure weight ratings of others Hvy. That doesn't mean either is right or wrong. Applied correctly, st croix rods are good over the counter choices especially avid and up.
