Just looked through the 2016 BPS catalog and noticed no Daiwa rods or reels. My local BPS only has a couple Daiwa reels in the case and sold all their Daiwa rods off in the clearance bin. Is BPS no longer selling Daiwa ????

Hmmm...the BPS website appears to have removed all references to Daiwa as well.  Weird...

EDIT: forget it, I'm apparently not qualified to use the BPS search procedure.  With that said, it seems they're a LOT less Daiwa items coming up.  I can't seem to find ANY Daiwa bass reels in baitcasting or spinning.  No Tatula, Zillion, etc.

Odd...

I thought this post was just a "gotcha" thing, but I went and checked myself.

This is very interesting.

Maybe there's an issue with their database because a search for a Tatula shows the filter as "tattle", and search for Zillion shows a filter for "million".

Funny this should come up...  Yesterday, I called both 1-800-BPS as well as my local Richmond store to inquire why I couldn't find any Tatulas online...  Both reps said simply that they weren't stocking them...  There was one left handed Tatula and a T3 Ballistic at the store, leftover....  Weird.  By and large, the BPS offerings "seem" to be migrating to more house-branded reels and rods (to my eye)...  I wonder if perhaps Daiwa is making any of the BPS reels, maybe justifying the disappearance of the Daiwa brand?  Curious...

I just went to bps to get my hands on a tatula before I made an online purchase and to my surprise... no tatula. They had a few big ocean style diawas but that was it.

With all the Tatulas, Zillions, etc being sold on ebay/Amazon for 20%-40% off retail, why would they want to complete with that?

I feel like they are trying to weed out all of the other brands and have mostly Bass Pro rods. Its interesting they have Lews now though.

True, but 90% of everything else they sell, excepting RedHead and BassPro house brands, are also available for the same online discounts...  Not unique to Daiwa.

In any event, I'd actually pay MSRP for a Tatula from BPS, simply owing to the experience that my wife and kiddos would enjoy while visiting our local store.

This came up in the Ozark anglers forums a little while back.  Basically the gist I got was Lews in in, Daiwa is out.  Also, I've heard BPS was trying to flex their muscle and it was pretty much Daiwa that dropped them (this may not be accurate  but its what I'd been told)

This makes sense especially with the TW exclusive line, and they also have the reels they make for Cabelas. The Prodigy line I think it is.

For what it's worth, Lew's is headquartered down the road in Springfield, Mo.

Quite true.  At one time I believe there was some beef between Lew's and BPS but it looks like times have changed
