Neil McCauley Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Is there a way to view the forums in the desktop version instead of the mobile version when on a smartphone? Most websites have this now, usually at the bottom of the page, an option to see the full version of the site as it appears on a computer. I also tried the request desktop view browser option in the upper right but it stays in mobile version. And as a side rant...these mobile editions of websites drive me nuts. Can't see the usual links, fewer options, no details, less navigable, etc. Dumbed down to the point of uselessness. Kind of like fishing with a kiddie rod. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted January 2, 2016 Super User Posted January 2, 2016 Maybe I misunderstood when Glenn said the difference between desk top & mobile was... Zero, zelch, nothing. They are the exactly the same..no difference Of course, I'm probably mistaken.. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 2, 2016 Super User Posted January 2, 2016 Lol....Good night Irene coming soon. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted January 2, 2016 Super User Posted January 2, 2016 They are both one in the same now. The desktop has become mobile. While the mobile has become desktop. For the Buddha says, if here is where we are then are we really here? Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 2, 2016 Super User Posted January 2, 2016 They are not the same at all, but you can't talk about it.......shhhhhhh Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 2, 2016 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 2, 2016 Hey guys, do me a favor on your desktop and click the little square icon at the top of your browser. Now resize your browser - make it small, make it big. Watch what happens. ooooo....aaaahhhh.... the screen resizes and the layout changes based upon your screensize....AUTOMATICALLY! This is called "responsive design". Google it. Once you do, you'll understand exactly what I'm saying, and why there's not "mobile version" or "desktop" button, and, in fact, it is all one in the same now. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 2, 2016 Super User Posted January 2, 2016 Look at his screen shots. On the desktop version to the right of General Bass Fishing Forum it shows the last thread that a post was made in. It does not do this on a mobile device. So are they the same? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 2, 2016 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 2, 2016 Dude - you need to do as I ask. Please. What I'm saying, it that it's all the same app. It only changes the layout automatically due to the screensize. So there's no "mobile version", "desktop version", "apple version" "mac version" "whatever version". Simply resize the screen, and it adapts. That's it. The layout automatically changes when the screensize changes. And only the layout changes, the underlying features and functions are all still there, hence it's the same. It's not a complicated concept. To put it a different way, the page design automatically changes on smaller screens (even though technically there's no "mobile version"), even though it's the same page. Again, it's called "responsive design". 1 Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 2, 2016 Super User Posted January 2, 2016 Sounds (and still looks differrent) to me. Say what you want about how the system is the same, but it's not, it selectively targets phones and tablets and creates a mobile version. The point is some people don't like a giant mobile view on a 10" tablet, let alone a 5"+ phone screen. It's the update and there's nothing you can do about but you will still get others bringing up the difference. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 2, 2016 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 2, 2016 A true "mobile version" means less features and functions. It's literally a "dumbed down" version, and is indeed a different version. With the new design, the ONLY thing that changes, is the layout, based upon screensize. That's it. I cannot explain it any clearer than that. I'm out. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 3, 2016 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 3, 2016 Guys, most people don't like to view desktop versions on their phone because the text is too small, and the links are very difficult to click - especially when they're close together. In addition, many things such as pulldown menus don't work in many phones. So it's a bad experience for them. That said, I hear you. Despite those drawbacks, you want to have the same view as you get on your laptops. Done. Near the bottom of the forums, you'll see a link called "Theme". Click it, then "View desktop version on mobile". It's literally the same view, but I removed the auto-scaling function, so it doesn't change views when your screensize changes. Bear in mind the drawbacks I mentioned above, but you wanted it. Who am I to say "no"? But if anyone complains about it, I will refer them to tomustang and jbsoonerfan. 2 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 3, 2016 Super User Posted January 3, 2016 Much better. Now people have a choice. I think that's all people were asking for in the first place Quote
