florida strain Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 im trying to get a lipless into heavier cover and some what resemble a spinnerbait .. basicly like a crossbreed ..here is a pic of what i got so far.. xr-50 with a single weedless hook with a tail spinner...any advice on how to make this better and work right.. thanks Quote
BIG M Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I would go with a #2 willow leaf on the tail. Take a #6 treb and cut 1 hook off so the other two hooks ride up on the sides of the bait. It might work. Your bait looks pretty good as is. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 17, 2010 Super User Posted March 17, 2010 with your hook how it is now (single hook, facing backwards) i think you are going to have issues with hooking fish. maybe flip it around so it is facing forwards and just make sure its got a good weedguard. or try what big m said. Super User J Francho Posted March 17, 2010 Super User Posted March 17, 2010 That kahle style hook has fail written all over it. Imagine the eats the bait, and you set the hook. What's the hook going to do? I'd reverse the direction, or switch the spinner and hook, and use an O'Shaughnessy style trailer hook. Quote
florida strain Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 ...thanks for the link nine miler..i forgot about b.l. making a spin trap.. i will try what big m said to do with a trebble.. or what j fracho said . thanks again. here is another im messin with. Quote
BIG M Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I like the looks of that bait. I've done that trick with the belly hook many times for running a crank thru grass and it works good. Quote
Nine Miler Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 This may help with an idea for component proportions... http://www.rat-l-trap.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=10&category_id=14&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=89 I also think it is cool that the lure will slide up the line away from the hook. However when it's running in the water it will actually be out to one of the sides. Still not what I would want but it's not going to be facing directly back like that. Quote
jbass Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I like the "thinking outside the box" Big M is on top of it, treble one hook clipped etc, this is what new lure designs is all about. Nice. Quote
WESB Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I CAN'T POST LINKS YET BUT ,CABELAS HAS Mustad W3551 Treble Weedless Hooks THAT HAVE A GUARD AND BASS PRO HAS Gamakatsu® G-Stinger Trailer HookS LIKE ARE ON THE MINNOW JIGS THAT ARE SUPRISINGLY WEEDLESS.THERE ARE ALSO Gamakatsu® Weedless Finesse Wide Gap Hook THAT HAVE A WEED GUARD AT BASS PRO. I'VE NOT USED THE LAST ONE BUT THE FIRST TWO WORK WELL.WES Quote
buzzcatcher Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 My two go-to baits, lipless cranks and spinnerbaits. This gives both in one lure. I like it. I have seen where people remove the rear hook on lipless cranks but I just haven't had the confidence to do that since I catch alot on the rear hook, but I like this idea alot better. So much so that I put this together in about 30 seconds. Buzz Quote
ArcherJohnny Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Hey Buzz, I hear what you're saying about that back hook being gone. I almost ALWAYS hook bass by that rear hook. The front one is more of a little "insurance policy" that sometimes hooks the fish in the side of the head or somewhere on the body. I wouldn't want to rely on it soley though. Why not try reversing your blade and hook setup and see how that works? It would be similar to the setup of a rooster tail. Just my .02 Johnny Quote
