What are some good inexpensive spinnerbaits. When and where should i use them. Just looking for some tips on using a spinnerbait.

If you are looking for a good cheap spinner bait, you can't go wrong with the H&H's.  I haven't found too many ways I CANT fish them other than throwing them into muck.  Just make sure you put the hooks on right!

Inexpensive is a relative term....Most SB are in the 6$-10$ range.  The Walmart 1$ spinnerbaits catch fish but you are getting what you pay for. I like the War Eagle Finesse you can find at Walmarts for around 6$. My favorites are the Terminator T1(10$) and EcoPro Tungsten Rapid Fire (8.50$). Eco Pro is probably my favorite.

i usually do short casts around timber but you can do a lot with them. pause the retrieve after hitting a branch. yo-yo it. slow roll it and kick up some dirt. change retrieve speeds. shake it while reeling.

they work all year, i slow it down when the water temps drop.

search for videos on youtube and im sure you will find a lot of tips.

Lots of Mom & Pop shops have home made spinnerbaits, because there is a pretty good margin on them.   If there are any mom & pop bait stores near where you fish, throw them a bone and try their brand first.  Hope that they are well made with decent components.

Your spinnerbait judging criteria might be if they have a ball bearing swivel or not, quality sharp hook or not. thin strong wire relative to weight of the bait or not, etc.

After you've done that for a while and you are starting to understand spinnerbaits, what they are good for and what they ain't, then branch out into regional or national brands.

What kind of spinnerbait are you looking for and how do you fish it?   Are you a throw & wind kind of guy?  Do you throw and drop it next to objects?  Do you run it into stuff and then drop it?    How heavy a cover are you throwing into and how comfortable are you about losing a bait or two or three or however many?

After you've thought out all these variables, make your own decisions.   Me - I like Terminators & War Eagles.  The baits that I throw most often are regionally available baits.  Chompers currently sells the old J&J spinnerbait, with the chartreuse & white blades & skirts.  I often throw an old Rogers Glass Eye half ounce single spin.   Chartuese/ purple body & skirt  - red glass eye  and copper colorado blade #5 or #6.

I own dozens of brands but these are the ones I throw more often than not.

I have bought Pepper Spinner baits for $3.00 on clearance. And I know there were some War Eagle on clearance for $5.00 before at Walmart. I make it a routine to check the clearance spot for things like this when ever I am in there. If you want some to toss into nasty stuff the $1.00 China ones do work. And I doubt you can find any cheaper ones. Yes some people just cant fathom using them but they do catch fish. In the junk its not like the blades are going to be doing a lot of spinning anyway. I will say the better higher priced ones do run smoother the blades spin much better etc. I use these more where I know the blade spinning is actually part of the attraction not the reaction strike from it banging around off of junk. 

You can use spinner baits everywhere. They work in the junk, near lay downs, in the weeds, banging off rocks, and on open water deep and shallow. About the only places I don't use them is in mats.

Some say they like windy days as the best days myself I use them year around cold, or hot, spring, or fall, summer, winter. I've fished them in the rain and wind and caught fish in every way I have tried them.  

Just my experience most common sizes I use are 3/8 oz or 1/2 oz. My preferred colors white, chartreuse, or a combination of the two are a very good combination and equally so would be black or a black blue mix. Colors are really similar to other baits as to what works in what conditions. Colorado smooth and hammered blades in nickle/chrome tend to be my more common blade types. Blade color and styles all have different effects and there are plenty of write ups on this is you do some searching. 

I do not use a training hook. Oh I mean a trailer hook. I refer to it like training wheels. Once you learn to fish the bait the right speed and set the hook at the right time you wont need that. Just look at it this way at 17 if you still had training wheels on your bike because you fell at age 3 or 4 go ahead and add the trailer hook.

I fish spinnerbaits  similar to squarebills.   Around timber, rocks, docks, and weed edges.  Also heavier spinnerbaits for deep ledges.  I like the baits at Seibert Outdoors, Premier League Lures, and G&G bait company.

Another tip is to look up a guy named jimmy houston and spinnerbaits. You might learn somthing.

Spinnerbaits are usually my go to lure along with texas rigged worms. I've found honestly that you truly do get what you pay for. I've been strictly with Booyah for awhile now. I've lost a lot less fish, and a lot less of the baits blades since the switch from strike king. They're also not overly expensive.

I have had really good luck with the Strike King bleeding bait series. I did have to replace a ball bearing swivel on one, but this was after 30 or 40 fish. The fish to money spent on these is pretty good.

Strike King and Booyah are very good for the money.

I like the Booyah spinner besides a local spinnerbait that is called Mr. Hootie. They are an old type of spinnerbait as they have the twist eye instead of the R bend. They also have the old time skirts made of rubber. On sale, you can usually pic these up for $3.00-$3.50.

Those strike backs road warrior attached look sweet.  Gonna have to get a few of those.  I've always liked venom lures hidden heads.

I am a War Eagle fan,I believe I get more bites on them because of the thin diameter wire, and I always use the double willow, even in muddy water, because the blades on their spinnerbaits seem to thump harder than others... One note, they sell a model that has the Trokar hook and twisted line tie, I bought them because I love Trokar hooks, but have not caught nearly as many fish on them. I believe that twist line tie hinders the vibration. It may not matter as much on the Colorado versions. I will prob order one from Sieberts just to see if I like them or not... Good fishing!!
