Garmin striker 7sv

Hey guys, any one own or has used this new unit yet. The garmin striker 7sv.

looking to purchase my first quality fish finder and my research has found this to be the least expensive at $499 , with the largest screen 7" that does have side imaging. If I'm wrong please correct me.

I have been using one of the fishin buddy models for some years now and honestly it's close to useless.

I fish small  ( 20 to 200 acres) trolling motor only lakes in which a couple do have depths approaching 40 ft, but most are under 10 ft.

Looking for the best bang for the buck for side imaging with screen size.

BPS has had them for sale for a while now but I don't know of any other retailers.

Has anyone actually received one or are they on their normal backorder since they have them on the site before they have any units in stock.

My apologies,  you are correct. Backorderable only .

Will have to wait to hear some reviews.

They are going to be a great starter unit.  Keep in mind that there is no mapping on these units.  You can mark waypoints, but as far as contours or shore line, there isn't any.

i plan on using the striker 7sv on my dash next to a garmin echomap 50s.....side by side they should give you all the hi-tech you need for $900 total, but with your lakes you probably don't even need that much

I haven't used the striker but I looked into them, I decided against them because you can't network them with other units or store waypoints. The hb helix 7 the next one up the totum pole at $700 and has mapping along with the ability to store waypoints but again the hb helix 7 doesn't have networking capabilities.

The echoMAP CHIRP 73dv is $700 as well with networking capabilities.

I don't believe the 73dv has side imaging.....I just saw during my own research for a unit that you can get the lowrance gen 2- 8 for a decent price....I think i'm leaning that way

SideVu is a sv model. dv is a DownVu model.

I got a 73sv for $500 just a few months ago and love it. Thanks for the heads up on the striker...i was going to get one for my new boat but no gps is a no go.

GPS is not mapping and mapping is not GPS.

There are two types of plotter GPS devices.

One that has mapping as a background is called a CHART PLOTTER.

One that has no background mapping capability is called a TRACK PLOTTER.

Both do Waypoints, Routes, and Tracks since those are not map data, they are GPS data.

The Striker looks to be a TRACK PLOTTER and cannot have any maps included or added.

If you want it all (except 360 degrees), and can do the money , you can search around for deals on lowrance 7 gen2 touch. The touch screen model is capable of many future add ons ,like networking - using either ethernet cable or nmea 2000 bus system .. some come without transducers.... be careful.....i've seen packages with navionics and insight for around 700 and up...the thing is worth every penny and way more

where did you find the echomap for 500?

Right now i have the echomap 43dv without chirp....I am debating getting the echomap 73sv $849.99 best i've seen, but wondering if a stryker 7sv would do the trick if i used them together?  Thoughts? I fish out of a porta-bote or a canoe on small water.

 Cabelas had the 2015 model for $500 at thanksgiving time and  bps will have it for $550 here in the spring sale. I wanna get the 2016 chirp model for it's panoptix compatibility now though ($850).
