Seeing as we had such a good response last year with the 'favorite movie line' topic, I thought this might distract us from the boredom of the off season.

What's your favorite song lyric?  You know the one you always quote or sing when something in particular happens, or just one that you identify with.

Great idea for a thread...

One line that has always stuck with me over the years came from a Bob Seger song called "Against The Wind" when Bob sings this line:

" Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then "

Back in context of the song:

"Against The Wind"

It seems like yesterday
But it was long ago
Janey was lovely, she was the queen of my nights
There in the darkness with the radio playlng low
And the secrets that we shared
The mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
Till there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove

And I remember what she said to me
How she swore that it never would end
I remember how she held me oh so tight
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Against the wind
We were runnin' against the wind
We were young and strong, we were runnin'
Against the wind

And the years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home
And I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed
Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searchin'
Searchin' for shelter again and again
Against the wind
A little something against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter against the wind

Well those drifters days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still runnin' against the wind
I'm older now but still running
Against the wind
Well I'm older now and still running
Against the wind

Yip yip yip yip yip yip yip yip
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na

Ev'ry morning about this time
She get me out of my bed
A-crying, get a job
After breakfast ev'ry nay
She throws the want ads right my way
And never fails to say
Get a job, sha na na na, sha na na na na

Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Yip yip yip yip yip yip yip yip
Mum mum mum mum mum mum
Get a job, sha na na na, sha na na na na

And when I get the paper
I read it through and through
And my girl never fails to say
If there is any work for me
And when I go back to the house
I hear the woman's mouth
Preaching and a-crying
Tell me that I'm lying
'Bout a job that I never could find

Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Yip yip yip yip yip yip yip yip
Mum mum mum mum mum mum
Get a job, sha na na na

And when I get the paper
I read it through and through
And my girl never fails to say
If there is any work for me
And when I go back to the house
I hear the woman's mouth
Preaching and a-crying
Tell me that I'm lying
'Bout a job that I never could find

Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Yip yip yip yip yip yip yip yip
Mum mum mum mum mum mum

So don't ask me, Hank why do you drink? Hank, why do roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Stop and think it over, try and put yourself in my unique position.
If I get stoned and sing all night long, it's a family tradition!

How has no one said this one yet

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?
Thunderbolt and lightning,
Very, very frightening me.
(Galileo) Galileo.
(Galileo) Galileo,
Galileo Figaro
Magnifico.

I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me.
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity.

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go. (Let him go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let him go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let me go!)
Will not let you go. (Let me go!)
Never, never let you go
Never let me go, oh.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Oh, mama mia, mama mia (Mama mia, let me go.)
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me.

The lyric that recently has been going through my head over and over is an obscure Robert Cray tune.

"If you like me, don't say you love me. .. . If you love me, don't say you like me . . . .I don't want to wait til Halloween to play trick or treat."

Can't possibly name just one.

"In the land of the numb, the arthritic is king." - High Rollers by New Riders of the Purple Sage.

"The screen door slams, Mary’s dress sways
Like a vision she dances across the porch, as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that’s me and I want you only
Don’t turn me home again, I just can’t face myself alone again
Don’t run back inside, darling you know just what I’m here for
So you’re scared and you’re thinking
That maybe we ain’t that young anymore
Show a little faith, there’s magic in the night
You ain’t a beauty, but hey you’re alright
Oh and that’s alright with me" - Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen

"Eat the Rich" - Eat the Rich by Motorhead

Many many more

"When I'm Sixty Four"

When I get older losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings, bottle of wine?
If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four?

You'll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride
Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight
If it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four?
Ho!

=========Always been a catchy tune for me. Guess I have to  pick a new song cause I cleared the 64
hurdle long ago

The Marshall Tucker Band.. from 1973

Gonna take a freight train
Down at the station, Lord
I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb a mountain
The highest mountain
Jump off, nobody gonna know

Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me

I'm gonna find me
A hole in the wall
I'm gonna crawl inside and die
'Cause my lady, now
A mean ol' woman, Lord
Never told me goodbye

Can't you see, oh can't you see
What that woman Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman Lord, she been doin' to me

I'm gonna buy a ticket now, as far as I can
Ain't a-never comin' back
Ride me a southbound, all the way to Georgia now
Till the train it run out of track

Can't you see, oh can't you see
What that woman Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman she been doin' to me (Whoa Lord)

Can't you see, whoa can't you see
What that woman Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, whoa can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me

Can't you see (oh, she's such a crazy lady), can't you see
What that woman (whoa that woman), she been doin' to me
Can't you see (Lord, I can't stand), can't you see
What that woman, (whoa) she been doin' to me

Can't you see (I'm gonna take a freight train), can't you see (down at the station, Lord)
What that woman, she been doin' to me (ain't never comin' back)
Can't you see (gonna ride me a southbound, now), can't you see (all the way to Georgia, Lord)
What that woman, she been doin' to me (till the train run out of track)

I saw them in 81. It was a excellent show..
