Rod storage question

Is there any issue with storing fishing rods horizontally?  Such as, will the rod develop a bow over time or the tip will start to sag, anything like that?

 

I recently built a rack that holds my kayak and all my rods worked out awesome...until I tried to open the garage door.  The door won't clear some of the longer rods and I don't want to store the rack in a place that allows the door to open cause that screws up everything else I have going on in there.  So, I was going to buy some of those plasti-dipped hooks from the hardware isle in Home Depot and just support the rods horizontally with those.  One hook just behind the reel and one maybe half to 2/3 the way up the rod.  Is this cool?

My garage doesn't have the ceiling covered.  I tacked a few lengths of soft line (rope) about four feet apart across the bottom of the floor joists and hang my rods between the joists.  I've been doing it for many years with no problems.  They're out of the way and pretty safe up there.

Even though i keep most of my rods indoors.i have never had a problem with them freezing in 30 yrs...i will ask now though does long term sub freezing hurt anything,,i know the graphite and fiberglass can stand low temps ,im more concerned about the glue,threads and such in reely cold weather does it harm its chemical properties??? Any rod experts out here know about that kinda stuff?

Once cured, epoxy is very durable. There is little to no chance of a graphite Rod taking a set. It would almost have to be intentional with a combo of heat and flex over a period of time. Rods can be stored either vertically or horizontally. To avoid damage avoid pressure on the tip area. Store is a place protected from rodents that will chew Eva and cork. Make sure things are clean and dry for storage.

Most of my rod have been leaning against a wall for 20 years, all in great shape. I believe you can store them any way you want to without any damage.

Thanks guys, appreciate it.  Im kind of a noob to serious fishing and really stocked up on the rods and reels last year.  The rope from the ceiling is a good idea, wish I'd thought of it.

Made a rack out of some 2x4's and some of those plasti coated hooks from home depot.  Should be pretty good when I get it up there.
