Ads7633 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 On this site I see a lot about the difficulties people have with FC line as a far as nicks and breakage. I however am not having these issues. My problem is with line management. I thought I had solved these problems years ago when I discovered invisix, but this past season it drove me up a wall. It is possible that it was because I switched from a trion to a pro qualifier, but all summer I had trouble with my invisix... It wasn't so much backlashes but constant loops forming in my spool and terrible line memory. This happened with two different spools of invisix, and I even tried KVD L&L. It just ruins my day of fishing when I am constantly pulling out line to keep loops from forming in my spool. What am I doing wrong? Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted December 28, 2015 Super User Posted December 28, 2015 This on a spinning or casting gear? What pound line, and how old was the line (prior to putting it on the reel)? Quote
wnspain Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Hard to tell without more specifics but sounds like a line twist prob Quote

Both spools were new from bass pro Did they go on the reel the same way it went off the spool, or did you just wind it on with it loose on the floor? If it didn't go on the same way it came off you're going to get twists and it wil become a problem. Also, did the line feel smooth when you were putting it on? If it felt rough, could have been old line from the store. Did it happen right away when you first used it or did it sit on your reels for a few weeks before you went fishing? If it sat for a while, the line could have gotten some memory from sitting too long causing the coils. Possibly fixed if you ran it out behind the boat with nothing attached and then reeled it back in to help straighten it. Quote

Line felt pretty good. And sometimes the rod sits for a few weeks in between fishing trips, some of the memory comes out after landing a fish or two but that doesn't necessarily stop the problem. Super User gulfcaptain Posted December 28, 2015 Super User Posted December 28, 2015 What kind of baits? You may be getting some line twist depending on what you're using. Read that wrong, if it comes out after catching a few, it sounds like when the rods sit for a few weeks the line sets and you get the issue. I'm not sure if you have a way of dragging it to straighten it (if from a boat you can let it out and once you get most of it out wind it back in) in some way. Then a bit of line conditioner as well afterwards. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 28, 2015 Super User Posted December 28, 2015 The simple solution is spooling braid for your mainline with a fluorocarbon leader. If you don't like using a leader Tatsu will solve the issue and it is currently on sale. 1 Quote
tander Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Maybe just a bad spool of FC. I have used FC for the first time this year without problems, using Sunline Sniper 20# test.Try Sunline, little more expensive but I believe you will like it. To me, it throws just like mono. 1 Quote
Ads7633 Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 I do have a spool of Sunline Sniper on the way. I am hoping that solves some of my issues. If this doesn't work I am going to have to give up the slack line sensitivity and just go with a braid to fluoro setup. Quote
