SFL BassHunter Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had any recent reports on Holey Land Water Management. It's been a while since I last went (on boat) and got skunked. I am considering going on foot tomorrow. Maybe fish the lake. Anyone have info on it? Water levels? Thanks Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Went out to Holey Land Water Management Area to the lake there on Monday. It was a nice day early then it got windy from the SE which made it difficult to fish and had me driving around a bit to find areas that had the wind to my back. Unfortunately I was land locked and though there is plenty of bank to fish out there the grass was very high in many places. Pictures of my preparations: Morning: Water clarity...extra clear: Oh that's right I have a sunfish. my bps finally had a few. So I got one. First fish came on the spinner bait after throwing the sunfish for a while and not getting a bite. It was a little guy but it broke my skunking. Then I tied on a *** jig in a bluegill color and threw that around after a while of catching nothing on the spinner bait. I got a hit on the jig swimming it but failed to set the hook properly. At this point I was switching rods after working an area with the jig I would work it with the spinner bait. Eventually my send fish came in the spinner bait again after pumping some pads and reeling over a pad as soon as it hit the water I got the hit but I wasn't sure if it was the pad or a fish. I swept the Rod anyways and it was a fish. My third fish was also small and was in the canal instead of the lake. Also on the spinnerbait My back was hurting and I ran out of area to fish that wasn't facing the wind so I called it quits. 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 5, 2016 Super User Posted January 5, 2016 Holey land is all about current. Find some current from one of the many pump stations and big fish will hang around in close proximity. The place totally changes when the pumps are on. 1 Quote

Yeah George I hadn't been there in a while and with no boat I just needed some bank to fish. I have been going to a couple of Weston ponds but haven't really been getting anything worth bragging about. Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 6, 2016 Super User Posted January 6, 2016 When things really get tough , down size and slow down. Target the drop offs and depth changes. Works for me often in Weston. Quote

Dalde003 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 give you a secret to Holey Lands.. don't fish the big lake.. the main canal has been producing as of late as well as the others depending how far you want to drive in and what kind of adventure youre looking for.. ive been there 3 times the last week and caught 10-20 fish every time.. biggest one was around 4lbs.. target lilly pad patches.. single out small patches and cast on them.. I use a lot of Senkos there and never had a problem catching fish 1 Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Thanks for the advice dalde ! I have never fished that far west. When I went the grass was pretty high out there and the area next to the canal was very muddy there were even some big ditches made by a car or truck that may have been stuck so I didn't want to get my mustang in there. The dirt road goes a long way. I drove down it for a while till I got tired lol. I'll probably be out there tomorrow on the boat. Maybe give that canal a try. 1 Quote

It went really good.. got out there around 3 it was kind of chilly and the wind really didn't help but the wind ended up dying down around 430 and I was able to cast on my spots pretty good.. I went with a buddy of mine and he caught around 12 fish biggest was 3lb. I caught around 18 with nothing to write home about. Still looking for the big bass there but had a lot of fun and caught a ton of fish. Water was low where I was at. Fished with senkos all day.. tried a few drop shot rigs and got nothing on them. Senkos with no weight rigged like a regular worm seems to do the trick there. Didn't try any hard baits, thought about it though lol 1 Quote

SFL BassHunter Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Thanks for the report! Wish I could have fished sounds like a pretty good day even though there weren't any giant fish. Last year I was fishing off the boat ramp tossed a sticko to the outskirts of the pads, felt a tick, set the hook and it was like setting on a brick wall. The line moved into the pads and I fought the fish for a moment before he wrapped around the pads and popped my hook loose. That was before I had learned a few tricks, and before I was using braid out in the glades. I am sure that fish was solid. Quote
Dalde003 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Quick update.. Went out there yesterday afternoon and they had every single pump flowing into the main and the Miami canal.. you would think this would be good news because I thought so too... the water was moving really fast and I couldn't even cast a bait without it dragging it down the canal.. I tried everything from worms with weights to crank baits and swim baits and that was the first time I got skunked out there lol.. I saw a few other people fishing also from shore and on boat and nobody caught a thing in the afternoon.. good luck Quote
