Buckeye Ron Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Did a search but didn't find what I'm after so I'll try this. I'm looking for a spinning rod with a Tennessee handle with sliding rings. I have several glass rods like this but want to buy a couple of new graphite rods with this handle. Would like to avoid the cost of custom builds,so does anyone know where I can buy rods like this "off the shelf"? Thanks Quote
faygo1979 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 All pro rods out of tn sell Tennessee grip rods. I have one of their bait casting rods that I like. I don't know if they have the sliding rings or not. Quote
pghgeorge Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 St Croix offers a few Tennessee handles in their Avid spinning models but they are some long rods. I have seen used older model Avid rods that were much shorter than what are currently being sold, that had the Tennessee handle. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 27, 2015 Super User Posted December 27, 2015 You don't need metal rings. Rod Wraps from Susquehanna Fishing Tackle 3/1/2003 12:35:00 PM Locate the reel so the outfit balances at the spot where your thumb and forefinger rest on the handle, our just immediatly in front of this spot. As for the tape, we reccomend a product called Rod Wrap. This is a non-sticky, minimum stretch wrapping which is available in 7 different colors. Call 1-800-814-7433 with any questions or to purchase. Thanks, George Susquehanna Fishing Tackle 1226 Harrisburg Pike Lancaster, PA Order Onlinewww.susquehannafishingtackle.com Quote
Buckeye Ron Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Agree that rings are not needed, but they are my personal preference. Never been a fan of rod tape, again just my personal preference. I missed an Avid rod on eBay and haven't seen another since. 7'3" I think it was. Lew's Speed Stick was another one I missed. There are a couple on the bay now going for north of $250.00 but that's way more than I want to spend. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 27, 2015 Super User Posted December 27, 2015 When anglers wanted direct rod contact with reel foot to increase vibration/feel feedback the cork handles fell from favor. Add the problem of getting quality cork, very few off the shelf cork handles with the rod blank running through it exist today. The Tennessee cork handle didn't have rings, the rings were a standard spinning rod handle 25+ years ago. Have custom rod made, contact DVT, decent rod blank and mid price guide train with simple cork handle with rings should be in your price range. Tom Quote
