Find much for good deals?

Headed out for a few hrs at a local resevoir. Jig, jerk, crank, and drop shot. Dont have those super cold water lures like a blade or float and fly so lets hope they wanna eat a black living rubber jig

Posted

Just got in from some great action.  More than a dozen on ned, Rippin' Rap, and Husky Jerk. Three were just under 3 lb.

Really wasn't expecting those results today.  Maybe the ground hog was wrong.

Less than stellar results. 1 crappie on a drop shot. Could find any hard bottom like I wanted. But the frogs were croaking and the crows were cawwing! Spring is right around the corner.

Unless you're a fan of Skeet Reese rods (3 for $100), there just are not many excellent deals going on.  There's a small booth there selling nothing but JDM stuff that made my day though.  There's another booth selling visions 5 for $100 which is like buy 4 get 1 free.  A2O has a bunch of PH custom balsa lures, including a new model similar to a whopper plopper but with a metal blade.  You can probably expect to see better deals next weekend since it's the end of the show.

Hey at least you got out and tried!

No, most everyone is selling for retail price. I went for the speakers KVD and G-Man as well as talking fishing with friends from around the state I only get to see at tournaments.

Got back from the Indy Outdoor/boat show a few hours ago.  It was packed, shoulder to shoulder.  Ugh.  I did not enjoy it much because of the crowd.  I was going to listen to KVD last Friday but skipped going then so I could go today and listen to Byron Ferguson, master of the long bow.  His talk was OK.  I did blow over $50.00 on three Savage Gear suicide ducks and a pack of Savage Gear stick baits.  Usually those big hard lures look stupid to me but those ducks are looking more and more cool and I can't wait to try them this spring/summer.  I'm not a hunter but I do enjoy looking at hunting stuff.  I was not impressed with the Water Foul/Hunting section.  Not really impressed with Tackle Town, not the massive lure selection I want to see at a big outdoor show.

Next year, if I go back, I will pick a weekday.  This was my fourth or fifth year going so I'm getting a little tired of it.  Paying $14.00 plus parking to see people pushing their high priced items is wearing off.

I went to the Indy boat/sport and travel show today also, wasn't super impressed with the lure selection either.  Did find some $7.99 lucky crafts tho, some small 1/8 ounce bucktails (impossible to find commercially, custom tying shops are nice but have to pay shipping then) and some odds and end for %20 off msrp.

Did get to talk with Jacob wheeler for a couple minutes when I ran into him checking out some gear, seemed like a nice down-to earth guy.  I've only met a few of the elites in person, but that's the impression I've got from all of them so far.  Much nicer and more humble than the stars from other sports IMO.

Funny watching him demonstrate lures in the fish tank for a seminar, you could just see him instinctively start to set the hook and having to restrain himself lol.

Got the kayak out of the shed today and washed it down with soap and water.  Got a lot of my boxes of lures out of the shed, put some new line on the reels, get three rods ready for Monday, I'm taking Monday and Tuesday off for my birthday, so I'm going kayak fishing!  lol.  Man, the sad thing is, I have enough soft plastics, I could loose one soft plastic every cast I make and still have enough for a life time.   Ugh, I have got to stop buying lures! I think to fix that problem I'm going to use more exposed hooks on my soft plastics.  Actually, I already almost ordered more soft plastics twice today from Tackle-warehouse but cancelled them.  I'm so addicted.

I had a booth right across the isle from the 7.99 lucky crafts! (It was hard looking at them and not buying them) I was selling my flies and bucktail jigs. Let me know what you need as far as hair jigs and I can tie them up at a good price for you and ship them to your door!

I might have saw your booth.  I stopped for a few seconds at a table that had flies that looked like fly fishing flies along with some larger flies.  But, the crowd was so heavy, I really could not enjoy the show much.

Got burned out on the show years ago.  Actually thought about going yesterday and looking for any last day deals but went fishing instead.  Did rather well.  Why spend money to daydream when you can  go out and do it?  BST show is a shadow of what it used to be.

Hey all!  I am looking for suggestions for your favorite spot to fish and camp.  I have the first week of April off work and nothing to do.  I have a kayak and am going to go somewhere by myself for the whole week.  I am in central Indiana and won't mind driving 4-5 hours.  Any suggestions?  I have considered going to up Mississinewa or Racoon Lake but am open to any thoughts you may have.

My dad lives in Muncie and he goes over to Summit Lake State Park in New Castle. It is a horsepower regulated reservoir with a bunch of tree trunks sticking up in a lot of the lake. I think it would be a great lake to kayak fish on. He has caught a lot of bass and crappie out of it. And they have a very nice campground at the park.

Prides creek in pike county, New lake in gibson county, both have nice camp grounds. Also bluegrass fwa is only 30 miles away and has some great fishing. Big bass and a chance of a musky. Prides is in my home town. Let me know if you end up going may be able to put you on some unknown good spots

Also scales lake in warrick county

Got out yesterday to a small pond in town and got 4 small ones in 45 min.

Today I took the new kayak to a small lake near me and had 14 in 4 hours. Most on a gold bladebait and 2 on a crankbait. Water temp was 45 deg and slightly stained. All the fish were under 12".

Went out last night - the weather here was overcast, mid 50's, and a slight wind.....

Not....even....a....nibble

Talk about frustrating. But such is the way of fishing.

I gave it all the whack I could, different baits, different depths, retrieves, etc.......nothin'

Getting reports of local Central ponds and smaller lakes having prespawn patterns. Time to bust out the lipless cranks and jigs!

Finally had some success. It was windy, drizzling, and low 40’s....somehow they (and by “they” I mean exactly 3) wanted a purple TRD....I guess it’s better than being skunked again!

Hittin' em regular now on a small lipless (#5 Rippin' Rap).  Always do best working the sun and wind together.

I noticed that most of those lucky crafts were either silent or over/under sized, which was a good thing considering my lucky craft addiction.

I was cracking up at Wheeler during his seminars.  He'd cast down to the end of that tank and 1 second later he'd interrupt himself with a "DANG" bc he wanted to set the hook.  Hilarious!  That dude genuinely loves fishing!

Got out on Sunday in the new boat. Caught a few fish in wind protected coves about 10 foot deep. All buck bass on a gold jerk bait fished as deep as possible. This week's cold front will stall the spawn just a few days and then the fish will make a mad dash to the banks...

Went fishing Sunday.

Everything is high and muddy and cold.

I scared a sunfish with my jig.

Regards,

Josh
