I've been cranking since early Sept. and doing pretty well.  Granted, I'm fishing smaller waters where location isn't as difficult and fish are easier to catch. I really enjoy moving baits over contact when I can.

Believe me, I've been trying. Even had a little help from @BigBassLoveSenkos, but we could not get on any kind of moving bait bite.  Swim jigs, jerkbaits, cranks, (not even a senko, when in the heck do they not eat senkos?)swim baits, they wouldn't have anything other than neds and shakies.  Didn't even get any 10xd eating crappie this time:lol: Although did get some white bass that somehow figured out how to get a swim jig with a keitech fat impact 4.3 in their tiny mouths:huh:.  Might have to switch to whites if the bass bite doesn't pick up soon.

Closest I can think of is Blue River near Fredricksburg and Milltown but it's way east of you.  Supposed to be some of the best smallmouth water in the state.  Right now would be prime time.

Have you tried the White River?  It's a decent smallmouth producer up near Indy.

I've never even heard of anybody fishing the white river for anything but catfish and striper down here.

What’s wrong with having your mind in the gutter? Mine spends most of it’s time there!

Bass bite has been poor up in the northern part of the state too.  Only way i can get a bite is to deadstick a senko on the edge of the pencil reeds and leave it there as long as I can stand it.  Wont hit anything moving , nothing going on offshore either .   Edges of the reed beds is the only place I can get bit.  Weird for this time of year.

Attempted to bass fish in the 30-40+ mile an hour wind today, but after an hour and a half of frustration and only half a dozen fish to show to it, switched over to white bass.  Went to where I knew a school of white bass probably were based on the wind and past experiences, and kept the boat in place by tying a rope to a tree next to the shoreline and letting the wind push the boat out.  The wind was more powerful than my trolling motor, but it worked out well once the boat was tied off.  Ended up catching 41 white bass pretty much every cast for just short of an hour, all on a 1/8 ounce roosterail.  They were in 8-18 feet of water, some suspended but the majority on the bottom.

Unless the bass bite starts picking back up, I think I might have to stick with the white bass:)  You gotta love a fish that fights like they do and school in that kind of numbers.

Saw the wind yesterday as an opportunity and jumped on some lipless action on one of my favorite ponds. I only fished for 45 min. after working in the morning close by.  Nonstop action including one close to 5 lb.

No wind today but gave it a go in one customer's retention pond. Couldn't keep the dinks off my bait but managed to catch my best in many years on a 9" bass that hit my crank.  The fish had to be close to 7 lb.! Even the little guy survived the ordeal. Makes me want to take up swimbaiting.

If you ever wanted to keep some, white bass are excellent table fair. They have a red strip of meat in their fillet and once removed, my grandpa can't tell the different between them and bluegill. This is a man who has been eating bluegill since he could eat anything.

Yep, they're one of my favorite fish easily found around here to eat.  I rank them right up there with crappie, when caught in cold water.  Much more firm than crappie, and almost as mild.

Using the tree as your anchor was an extremely creative boat control technique.  Props on that.  Anytime you can catch fish on every cast is an awesome day, no matter what species you're targeting.

I'm hoping the bass bite picks up soon, as temps are forecasted to drop and wind is forecasted to pick up this week and next.  I'm really looking forward to when falling water temps cause bass to follow shad into coves/shallows, overcast skies, and a 10mph SW wind. Swim jig and topwater season will be here soon.

Hard to believe that's the white river compared to what it looks like down here.

Looks like where I used to fish below Westfield Blvd. spillway at the mouth of Williams Creek. Had some 50 fish days there in the spring in years past.

Not too far, right by the monon bridge.

Raccoon was terrible today, I was out there for 8 hours and caught a dink and a white bass.

Braved the 40 MPH gusts yesterday , Caught some nice ones on a weightless trick worm in the back of protected pockets.  Would have loved to fish the windy banks but 4ft waves are no ones friend.

Anybody having trouble getting bit this week?  Easy to blame turnover but I don't think it's happening yet.

I had 1 dink on a spinnerbait in 2-3 hours on Tue night before trying for crappies. That didn't pan out either so I started throwing a jerkbait. I caught a 19" smallie that tried to take my rod and a 6" largemouth just before sundown.

Gotta question about river fishing in a kayak. When you are fishing by yourself or with others. Are you fishing up and down where you put in or are you floating down to another landing, ok, maybe 2 questions.

I've recently started kayak fishing the White River near Muncie and I do a combination of the two. If I have a couple hours, I'll put in and paddle upstream 15 minutes to a good spot and hang out there. Then I'll just paddle back downstream when I'm done. If I'm going for 8-10 hours, then I'll try to find an entry point and exit point four to six miles apart. The hard part is arranging transportation for someone to either drop you off or drive you back to where you put in.
