Anybody ever fished Bluegrass FWA just north of Evansville? Scoped it out today and boy what a beautiful set of pits they have. There are musky there and also lots of big largemouth.

Looked at it online but didn't learn anything.

Got a couple friends who live down that way and fish it. Just like you said, musky and some nice bass. Decent crappie at times, too. Lots of good looking water in the area.

I'm really close to there and did a drive by and stopped and talked to what seemed to be some seasoned anglers. Hoping I can get one of my buddies to get their boat out on it soon. A change of scenery would be nice. And having the chance to stick a musky would be fun.

I'm considering getting a kayak or a canoe to float some of the local Rivers and Creeks around here (Wabash, Missessenawa, and Wildcat Creek). I can't figure out from the DNR site what the laws are as far as a launch permit or any stickers needed so I figured I will ask here since I know some of you guys use kayaks.

 Thanks

Tyler

I've attached the link to the site that lists the properties that require a non-motorized permit. They are $5. I do not believe there are any rivers or creeks that require the sticker.

Thank you very much.  I looks like I can drop in Missessenawa down steam of the dam but if I want to go into the lake I'll need a sticker.  For $5 I'll probably go ahead and get a sticker to keep my options open.

Hi fellow Hoosiers.  New here.  Been lurking for a couple years.  Just wanted to tell tstraub to be selective about where you launch your canoe at Miss Res.  Almost swamped a 14' tri hull a couple years ago. Lots of big boats and wake on the weekends.  The cartop launch on the far East end would be ok if the current isn't to strong.

New personal best last night.  Decided to explore a new section of river.  It payed off.  17" smallie on the whopper plopper.     20170817_200656.jpg

Nice smallie @IndianaOutdoors!  Looks like about a 3.5 to 4 pounder, probably felt like a 6# largemouth.  I caught one about that size a couple nights ago on a berkley dredger on the bottom of a gravel pit, pic below..

So did you release it or keep it?  I only ask bc laying a fish down on the ground like that can be harmful to the fish as it usually results in the removal of much of the fish's slime coat.  When released, this can be really hard on fish.  If you kept the fish, then no worries, they fry up perfectly fine without a slime coat

How are you liking those dredgers?  The manufacturer claimed diving depths are incredible for the sizes, but I haven't bought any yet.

I'm ashamed to say I was not aware it would harm the fish.  I'm not in the habit of laying fish on the ground so I guess I hadn't really thought about it.  I usually  have my rods marked for measuring but I was using my new Lunkerstick and had not marked it yet.  Thanks for letting me know.

I've never been a fan of anything berkley before except for maybe powerworms, but I've gotta admit, the dredgers are nice.  They are smaller than comparable cranks that run at the same depths.  The dredger that runs to 25.5 feet is smaller than a 6xd (which runs at 17 feet).  Plus, they get down to the bottom in a hurry.  The color of the dredger below is irish gold and its been producing well for me....

Been a rough last few weeks for me, very erratic patterns and a lot of slow days.  The shaky head and ol standby ned rig has been getting a lot of use, in addition to shallow/deep cranks, frogs, and buzzbaits.  Some fish being caught up one of the shallow feeder creeks on frogs and buzzers, the rest offshore on shaky heads and deep cranks unless it's windy.  Cranking main lake windblown points get the nod then.  I've been experimenting with pouring shaky heads on 2/0 hooks (especially with 4-5 inch finesse worms, but also normal sized ones to) with good success lately, they seem to get more bites than the normal 4/0 hooks most companies use.  Something to think about trying if you can find some.

On a positive note, I just clicked my fish counter for the 3,250 time, and it looks like I might reach my goal of 5,000 fish before the end of the year:)

If it having luck with smaller hooks you might try flick shake heads very close to a shaky but mixed with a wacky rig.  Very good for something a little different

I actually tried those, and while I loved them for wacky rigging, I had hook set issues when fished shaky head style. It could of had something to do with that style of hook, or maybe it's just user error.  But so far I'm really liking the ones I pour myself, I can use exactly the hook I want in the weight I want, and they still cost less than commercially made jig heads.

Hey guys, I am thinking about selling shaky heads and mushroom heads, and decided to ask on here to see if there was any interest from you guys.  The screw lock shaky heads have six weights, 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 ounce, poured on either 2/0 or 4/0 owner hooks.  The mushroom ned heads are 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 1/4 ounce, poured on either #2 or #1 lil' nasty hooks, and also #1 and #2 owner hooks. I could also pour them on any other hook you want, if you're buying enough to make it worth purchasing another pack of hooks.

I'm thinking 7$ a dozen/13$ for 24 mushroom heads poured on lil' nasty hooks, or 9$ for a dozen owners/$17 for 24.  For the shaky heads it would be 10$ for a dozen owners.  Right now I'm just seeing if there's any interest, send me a pm if you are interested.

Be careful bud, jig making and skirt tying can take your fishing addiction to a whole new level.  Trust me, I know. :)

I'd definitely be interested in picking up some of those.  Are you painting the jig heads?  What style baitkeepers are you incorporating in them?  Also, how much more would it cost to swap out the owners for trokars?  Thanks!

No guarantees, but always been a good top water lake first thing in the morning, and then crankbaits and Carolina rigs during the day.
