Good choice, Midwest Fisherman. Wilderness Systems makes a great kayak. I have their Tarpon 120 Angler. I fish at Westwood & Whitewater (N of Brookville Lake). Both small waters good for kayaking. Westwood is dink city, but you can catch a lot of small bass.

I'm thinking of kayaking Whitewater on Monday...Will it be packed being that it's memorial day? Maybe I should wait until Tuesday, although the wind is supposed to be 15mph, which is killer in a kayak.

Busy day on the lake today, at least until the rain pushed the pleasure boaters off for a little while.  Caught 41 bass in 4 hours, on trick worms before the rain moved in and then buzzbaits in the rain.  The better fish are starting to move out onto the main lake stuff now, but still a few back in the coves mixed in with lots of buck bass.  Best five weighed a very nice ~17 pounds, anchored by a 5.36 pound lunker that hit a buzzbait. Second biggest bag I've ever pulled out of this particular lake.  The finesse game changer buzzbait did most of the damage before it broke, then a cavitron kept on catching them.   Also made a go at catfishing for an hour or two later on, got a couple hits but didn't connect.

Got out with my son today. We hit the creek for smallmouth, but it was up and running fast, we just couldn't locate them, so we walked over to a pond and caught a bunch of bluegill playing around with top water flies and I caught a 3 lb bass on a zman chatterbait.  Not a great picture, hard to get him in the frame he was so big

Went today for about 5 minutes. Took my nephew who has never caught a fish. Between the moss and others fishing and super trashy people, we casted 5 times and he caught one bass. Would've loved to fish longer but he was ready to go home and play wiffleball.

It's to bad he had to go so soon, but at least he caught his first today!

Hello. Anyone ever fish Hurshtown reservoir northeast of Fort Wayne? Gonna put the kayak in tomorrow and just thought I'd try to solicit some advice. Only fished up there one time prior and we caught a couple walleyes trolling crank baits along the rip rap. Would like to get a smallie or two. Don't know much about the place other than its usually breezy and the water tends to be clear. Thanks

What would u like to know about hurschtown.  I know it get a pounded for as small as it is.  It's not very deep it's clear not alot of structure.  If u find a specific depth fish are holding stay there cause they will be there and I'm talking the difference of a foot is huge in h town.  Are u in the fw area if so with a kayak there are some better options out there. You just might have to drive a little further

Summit was rough on Saturday. The reports said they were on bed, but we definitely struggled to put anything together. Probably should have gone father south on the lake, as we stayed on the northern half most of the day, but not many guys were reporting anything good.

Fished hurshtown for little over an hour this morning. Caught three nice smallies. Two on a black grub and eighth ounce jig. Third was on a wacky rigged zoom centipede. First time fishing it from a kayak. The wind picked up which made for an interesting paddle back. Overall nice place will definitely be back

I fished Summit lake for about 3 hours yesterday.  The wind made boat control tough but we managed to find a few less windy spots and pulled in 6 bass between the 3 of us.  All were caught on soft plastics near wood structure.  Over all we had a good time and I caught a fish on my newest garage sale special combo, a 7 ft Brent Chapman casting combo.  Still had the tags on it got it for $20

Weightless and tex-posed, on a 3/0 hook.  I change hooks depending on what fall rate I want, with a 3/0 trokar ewg hook falling the fastest, 3/0 owner ewg in the middle, and 3/0 gamakatsu normal gap offset hook.  You would be surprised at the difference it makes in a weightless worm.  I fish them just under the surface, twitching and jerking them to make them dart in different directions randomly.  Bright colors such as bubblegum and merthiolite are my favorite for the added visibility, when the pink worm disappears I know its in a bass's mouth.  One of the best post spawn bites (in addition to topwater) around here.

I have heard from multiple sources that silver buddy blade baits work really well at H -Town, have never fished it . But is deep and clear , jerkbaits , swimbaits , crankbaits on the windy side should put you on some smallmouth.

Been busy working lately but I hear that Geist has been producing some big bags during tournaments, 20 lbs +. Winners have been using a Ragetail Structure Bug on a rugby (swinging head) jig.

Very nice, I have the Deeper Bobber I'm gonna mount and see how that works on the yak. I put a piece of pipe insulation on the top seat bar to soften it up. Had it on eagle creek today, didn't catch anything but had the wife with me and she was more interested in paddling than watching me fish.

Educate me on the rod along side the boat, is that for stabilizing it.
