Got out for an hour or so yesterday at one of my favorite large ponds. Took my daughter and wife. Between the three of us we caught a 1 rock bass, 3LMB, and 4 catfish. Good day to end a 70hr work week.

You sir, need a vacation!

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. No vaction scheduled. But the middle of July I go to day shift for a week with straight 8's so that's close enough.

That's going to be Heaven compared to those hours!

Caught my first whopper plopper bass tonight! I caught three or four on it, then switched over to a swim jig with a zoom swimming fluke and caught a few more. The wife caught 5 or 6 on a black and blue zman chatterbait. She likes fishing, not so much fish

Had an awesome day of fishing today.  In 5 1/2 hours this evening we caught 99 fish, we fished for an hour after dark looking for that 100th bass but it never came.  Would have caught even more if we had a trolling motor, it broke last week and we're still trying to fix it.  So we used the outboard motor to limp around the lake, not ideal but it worked.  Almost all of them hit a pop x walked right next to the bank around bluegill beds and near where the bass spawned.  Also caught some on trick worms, rats, and whopper ploppers. Post spawn trick worm and topwater bite is at its peak right now.  Around 20 of those bass were keepers with the best five weighing 16-17 pounds.

It beat my previous record for numbers, and sure beat the heck out of fishing the dead sea of Monroe.

I went back to the covered bridge at Matthews this morning to fish the Mississinewa River. It was muddy when I got there -- and got even more muddy once the rain started. I stayed for three hours (until the lightning & thunder started) and only got one bite. I tried a black & blue spinner, a neon green & white squarebill, and a ned rig. Oh well... a bad day of fishing still beats a good day at work.

Got into a debate today with a friend , thought I would post it on here and see what you guys think . Where is the next state record largemouth bass most likely to be caught .

In an old quarry I'm going to as soon as this rain stops  I would have to believe the odds are best as far South as possible, probably a private pond or lake would be my guess. If it's a public lake it will probably be ruined from all the pressure it will get!

Webster lake.  Talked to the dnr out there one day when they were shocking gettin info on the muskies guess they shocked up quite a few that broke the state record.  With that said if not there then another public body of water.  Pond fish don't weigh the same as lake fish do they just don't seem to have the mass of a fish caught out of a lake I believe do to the size of the body of water

If I had to guess, it would be a private lake similar to where the current state record came from.  That said, I don't think it will be broken any time soon.  It has been a long time since anyone came close to breaking it.

It will never be broken again, at least not in our lifetimes, Or until they figure out how to genetically modify Florida strain bass to survive in Indiana :P

Way to think positive , don't they have a strain of bass that are a cross between northern strain and Florida strain , I think they call them tiger strain bass . I beliege that it is possible , I have seen 2 fish in person that went over 11lbs caught and weighed out of a lake in southern Indiana close to the area of the current record. Both of those fish were released so it could happen . I have to believe that a 15lb big girl is swimming around somewhere in his state , eventually someone will cross paths with her.

Since the process of officially weighing and verifying a state record bass could lead to the death of the bass, I wouldn't even bother reporting it.  I'd rather take some pics with it, then safely release it back to its habitat so I could catch it again next year.  And since I wouldn't report it, you all would have no idea where my honey hole was!!

I fish Webster a lot , it does have some big fish for sure , one of the Muskie guys will probably catch one that breaks it , and toss it back cause it's a green carp .

Somebody better catch her quick then, because that fish is at the end of her lifespan and will be dead of natural causes in the next year or two

Look, Jennifer's fish was a freak of nature. It didn't just break the state record, it shattered it. State record bass usually increase gradually, several ounces at a time. Hers beat the existing record by over 2.5 pounds. It is likely the 2nd or 3rd largest northern strain bass ever documented. Could it happen? Sure - maybe it will be me next week on my semi-private lake. Is it likely to happen? No.

As just one example, thanks to the addition of Florida bass into Chickamauga, TN now has a new state record at 15.3 pounds. But the old state record of 14.5 pounds, smaller than Jennifer's fish, stood for over 60 years (1954).

Jennifer's fish has stood for over 25 years already. I fully expect it to stand for another 25. Thanks to global warming, one day our record will fall, but it's more likely one of our neighbors (KY, MO, IL, OH) who haven't even reached the 14 pound barrier yet will go first.

Nice! I have a Mattlures Ultimate Bluegill I'm trying tomorrow. The gills are spawning on top of the ledges in the stone quarry I fish & the bass are ambushing them just off the ledge. Glad to see you got hooked with it! Im not confident with full size swimbaits at all.

I got hooked up 3 times, finally lost an eye and tore the front bad so I put it away until I can fix it. I've caught several on swim jigs and paddle tail soft plastic swimbaits, but that bam bam thing is a beast, it weighs nearly an ounce alone, I was happy just to see them grabbing it.

Hello, been a while since I posted but I've been watching/reading the posts. Been wearing out the local ponds the last couple years and I've decided to get a kayak, I've already decided on an ATAK 120, preferably used over new but I'm not holding my breath on that one. Looking for some suggestions on where to fish with the yak, thanks.

They just got the results finalized... And we're in the state championship this July!

I think I am headed out to Westwood, Summit, or Prarie Creek tomorrow.

I took my kayak to Westwood today. I got there at about 7:00 AM and stayed until about 2:30. I caught just over a dozen small bass (12-14 inches). I didn't have any luck on the whopper plopper but I did on the ned rig, black & blue spinner, and green & orange chatterbait.

Check out Westwood Lake. It doesn't have a lot of BIG fish but it gets a lot less boat traffic than Geist and Morse, and less tournament pressure than Summit. Also, check out the Indiana Kayak Anglers.

Arrrrggggghhhhhhhh!!!! [shakes fist angrily]

I just unloaded my kayak & gear from my SUV. Somehow I managed to break three guides on my iRod frog rod and busted out a ceramic insert in the tip of my "Lucky" rod. I don't have a clue how or where it occurred. I was pretty exhausted when I came off the water... maybe I dropped them or knocked them around when I was loading up. Or maybe I did it just now as I pulled the rods out of my car (although I don't think I did). What a bummer.

Any advice on how to proceed? Best place in central Indiana to get 'em fixed?

Ok, thanks, I'll look into them. Just got back from Boones pond, first time fishing in a kayak, had a great time caught 3 dinks.

sorry about your rod. I hear taps in the background

Must have been a bad day for Hoosier fisherman today! I just got on the water and the text messages start rolling in, I fight the boat for a couple hours, which just infuriated me to the point of thinking about selling it and going back to bank fishing, I say the heck with it, load it up and go to another spot and catch a dink which promptly sinks a treble past the barn in my finger tip. I tried braid, that doesn't work be yourself, so I tried pushing it through but it won't move, so I had to back it out with pliers. Then I got my truck (almost) stuck, so I went home and took a nap! Caught 4 dinks.

Broke my rod tip on my spinning rod this morning to! Ahhh! I want to punch this day in the face!!!
