BrianMRetter Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Anyone have advice for fishing Whitewater State Park (reservoir) in the morning? Probably 7a-11a. Fishing for largemouth Quote
Cole Richards Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Just got back from a houseboat trip to Lake Cumberland ky , crushed the smallmouth down there . Caught this one on a CR Custom Lures deep crank in Killer Gill . We just got the houseboat tied up in a cove and I saw shad jumping on a secondary point so I grabbed the 1st rod I saw  threw it across the point and boom nice smallie. Man it is nice to catch brown bass. 3 Quote

Fishing for largemouth I fish whitewater quite often but rarely in the morning. Your best bet would be to go along the dam and fish rip rap or target shaded areas along the bank. Fair warning - Whitewater is very heavily pressured. Fishing the lake opposite side of the boat ramp may be your best bet but I wouldn't go too far past the beach as that part of the lake is pretty shallow. The East side of the lake has a decent ledge as well that might hold some fish during post-front (if it rains). Good luck to you. I have lots of luck fishing the weed beds around the rental docks with a weightless senko but I also don't have a boat or kayak. 1 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Fished for about four hours today. Â It started out slow, but ended up with seventeen bass. Â I tried an upsized version of the zeach-z using four and a half inches of the zinkerz hoping for a little better size. Â Most of the bass were still little 13-14 inches long, but five were over fifteen inches, so I guess it was a success. Â I haven't been using the swimbait anymore because I broke it off yesterday when the leader knot caught on a guide during the cast, causing the line to break and the swimbait sailed off. Â I ordered another one so it should come early next week, but for now I'm just going to enjoy catching more than a fish per hour.. The water clarity is down to a little over a foot from all of the algae and the mud from all of the boat traffic. Â The bass were under docks in two to eight feet of water on or near points, so the bass must be slowly migrating out to there summer areas. 1 Quote

IndianaFinesse Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Fished this morning and late afternoon for about five hours total. Â Don't know why, but the size was much better today. Â I caught 33 bass with eight over fifteen inches, and my best five weighed 12.4 pounds. Â I started out throwing a basspro slashbait that the bill had broken off of, and it actually has much better action without the bill and walked quite well. Â I targeted submerged weed beds in two to eight feet of water, and later on the docks next to the same shorelines. Â Around 10:30 or so the bass moved under docks where I caught them skipping the zeach-z underneath them. Â The heat (and pleasure boaters) were horrible this afternoon, I had to make sure I got snagged underneath docks a few times as an excuse to go swimming to get them out. Â 2 Quote
Alan Reed Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Checked out a new location for a couple hours with my step son tonight. Being a new location We were trying a few things to see what worked and what didn't. They were hitting on everything. Weightless Senko, Texas rigged worm, Crankbaits, buzz bait. Pretty fun night. 1 Quote
frosty Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 My first Ned Rig lmb. Caught 3 or 4, all dinks. Had a nice one hit a hula popper about 11 o'clock, but I couldn't connect. 3 Quote

IndianaFinesse Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 This morning I managed to get out for four hours before the full force of the pleasure boaters destroyed the fishing. Â Caught about thirty five bass, with five over fifteen inches for a total of 10.8 pounds. Â Most ate a spook early in the morning, and some ate a Ned rig skipped under docks. Â I targeted the same areas as yesterday. In the late afternoon I decided to try to go catfishing, figuring they would be up shallow feeding heavily before the spawn. Â Well, I was right. Â In 45 minutes I caught two channel cats, on weighing twelve pounds and the other twelve and a half. Â They are up shallow in traditional spawning areas, protected from the wind, sunken tires, etc. Â I caught them on a strip of bluegill meat fished weightless, that sounds pretty normal but the retrieve isn't. Â I was doing what bluebasser calls, "bass fishing for catfish" which means that instead of casting out and just waiting for the catfish to bite, you cast it out and allow it to sink to the bottom before slowly reeling it in. Â It covers a lot more water that way and is much less boring than watching a rod tip. 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted June 12, 2016 Super User Posted June 12, 2016 Only got out for two hours Friday afternoon but picked up a channel, too  Only abut 6-8 pounds (didn't weigh it), but chunky. They get pretty feisty this time of year and will bite lures pretty readily if you get one in front of their face long enough. 2 Quote
OddChase Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Seems everyone is catching some cats. Went out this morning and limited out on catfish between 5 and 12 pounds. As @IndianaFinesse said, they are preparing to spawn and are hungry for anything that is in their way. 1 Quote

OddChase Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 11 hours ago, IndianaFinesse said: What were you using? Chicken livers under a bobber fishing around a rocky cosway during the morning. In the lake where I fish cats come up by the thousands to feed around the rocks. It's a bit of a hazard on foot but a boat would make quick and easy work of the feeding frenzy. 1 Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 This Ned rig is the real deal.  Spent the weekend fishing and swimming and was catching numbers in the middle of the 90+ degrees afternoon swimming a Ned.  Pretty impressive.  Also caught and released more cats than we could count by chumming the water with creamed corn and still-fishing chicken livers on an AL rig.  1 Quote
tstraub Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I came up empty on bass this weekend again.  Even the panfish bite was real slow.  Water visibility is still way down around 8-12 inches.  the lake turnover is really messing with the fishing.  I even threw a line out with a live crawdad overnight and it didn't get touched.  It was pretty disappointing as far as the catching, but still had a good time fishing and camping.  I did get to try out a new to me reel this weekend  it's a PBS prolight special pretty decent little reel after a bit of a tuneup.  I got it used off the fleamarket forum here.  The magnet brakes were indexed incorrectly but once I got that sorted and lubed it up it throws crappie jigs really well.  My ned rig stuff should be here tomorrow so hopefully next weeks fishing report will be a good one.    2 Quote
FastVette Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Went out to Chain of Lakes and "Simpson Pond" just south of Rousch Reservoir today. Â No boat, and both were total washes. Â Just nothing but algae and much around the shores. Â I think I made a total of 10 casts all day. Â On the plus side, all the trapsing around the ponds by foot with no benefit got my wife to concede maybe a boat isn't a bad idea. 1 Quote

Met with a guy who could potentially be installing $6K worth of heads and valvetrain parts into my Corvette yesterday, and I told him I'm not 100% committed yet because of considering a boat.  He said "You know what that stands for right?" then gave it to me.  Still haven't made up my mind though.  What's another $1k here and there on a boat when I've got around $30K into a car right? In other news.....went back to my development pond this morning.  No action on the topwater Stanley Ribbit, but I came prepared to give this whole "Ned Rig" thing a shot.  That was a mistake..........  1 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Fished this morning for almost four hours. Â Caught twenty three bass, all on a spook fished parallel to banks with submerged grass. Â The fish for the most part were on points, with a few still just inside the coves. Â Picked up two more cats yesterday, a 32.5 inch long fish and a 31 inch. Â I don't know why all of the catfish are the same size, I haven't caught anything this year over 33 inches or under 30. Â 2 Quote

So my guess would be that what you are seeing is simply a good age class from one of the earlier stockings in the lake that have all survived and grown up together. Very similar to the hybrid stripers - they're all within about 6" of each other between 25" and 31," all stocked one year at the same time and length. -T9 2 Quote

BassassinX Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Any one have any suggestions for Morse reservoir this Saturday?  Never fished it,  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated  thanks Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Fished this afternoon for a couple hours. Â I had a friend with me, so I spent most of the time untangling and getting him un snagged. Â Only managed to catch five bass, all on frogs fished over weeds. 4 Quote
