One of those I fish really needs one... Josh Almost no chance for any kind of across the board slot limit on bass, but they will from time to time put slot limits on specific lakes to try and restructure the population. Depends on how bad your lake is...and assuming it's a public body of water. -T9 1 Quote
OddChase Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Calling out the Eastern Indiana guys.. I need help with Summit Lake. I know this is a bass fishing forum but being a multi-species angler myself, I enjoy catching all fish. I'm looking for any info on panfish from the bank at Summit. Send a PM if you don't want to reply on the forum. Thank you. Quote

Thank you. I have never actually fished in summit lake, but the panfish are up shallow on or staging next to there beds right now.  They are not spawning yet, but they are staging and the males are fighting over the beds.  Good areas to look for are a sandy/small gravel bottom protected from the wind, and any cover like docks or weeds are sure to have loads of fish on them.  For the big females fish right off of the drop off next to the beds, just about anything will work as far as baits go.  Crickets, gulp 1" minnows, wax worms, night crawlers, small jigs, etc. are all good choices.  I haven't done any actual bluegill fishing lately, but I have been catching quite a few monster 9-10 inchers while bass fishing in the areas I described over the past few weeks.  1 Quote

Might have been the front. I'll be exploring the rest of the lake after work looking for beds. Thank you and thanks for suggesting some lures. 1 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Uh, when you said panfish, I thought you meant bluegill. Â I have no idea where the perch are as my lake doesn't have any. Â Depending on your water temperature they might not be up shallow quite yet, here it is ~65 degrees. Â Any cooler than that and they will likely be out a little deeper on cover in seven to three feet of water as they are just starting to move up in that last week or so here. Quote
OddChase Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 It's not that I was targeting perch, I just happened to catch one on my crappie rig lol. I'm just trying to find some spots to catch some dinner during the summer and fall. Quote
Alan Reed Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Fished for about a hour tonight a little before sunset through awhile after at the pond near the house. The bass were not active at all. Only caught 1 on a Ned Rig and was a very light bite. 1 Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Fished a gravel pit last night from about 7 to 9pm.  Caught somewhere between 25 and 30 keepers.  Thanks to the strong N breeze, a swim jig rod (with a finesse swim jig/paddletail trailer) and a crankin rod (with a spro lil john crankbait tied on) were all that I picked up.  Smallies were just destroying the swim jig.  At one point I hooked em on 6 consecutive casts.  ridiculous!! 3 Quote
Cole Richards Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Smallies in a gravel pit , sounds like a win to me ! 1 Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 That's awesome, congrats on the new PB! I keep thinking one day I'll forget the plug and I still can't imagine taking on water like your boat did.  How does this happen?  I know you were freaking out!! 1 Quote
BassassinX Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I've left the plug out once, Â and it's no where near that bad, Â that happened when a storm blew in over night and the waves crashed over the stern. Â The pic is the second time it went down, and only took 20 minutes from dry to drowned, Â the first time their boat was sitting on the bottom of the lake, Â with only two inches of the cowl above water. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Congrats on the new pb! Â I love the photo of the bass on the scale, I think I will start doing that so people will believe me and not just think it's a fish story. I went out late night for two and a half hours and fished for white bass for something different. Â I caught 39 good ones with lots of smaller six to nine inch fish that I didn't count also. Â The white bass were up on top feeding on shad in open water, so i trolled spinners around and stopped and casted whenever a school blew up on the surface within casting range. Â I went back to bass fishing this afternoon for about three hours and caught a total of 36 bass, but mostly the thirteen to fourteen inch clones and only four over fifteen inches. Â It seems another wave of bass has moved up on the beds, which gave me the opportunity to sight fish. Â If I have the chance to sight fish I always take it, it's just plain fun watching the basses reactions to the baits movements and adjusting accordingly to each different bass. Â The Ned rig was he ticket as usual, and although the majority of the time was spent sight fishing, when looking for beds I fan casted and skipped docks using the swim glide and shake retrieve. 2 Quote
BassassinX Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Still in search for a partner for this Saturday,  Brookville lake,  be the first rider on the new boat  first fish on st Clair before the sinking  second fish on st Clair.... And the last 1 Quote
OddChase Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Caught my first bass on Summit last night. A whopping 10 inches on a 4in weightless senko. Caught in 3 foot of water but don't think he was on a bed, hit the senko twice on the fall. Going out tonight to try and catch more with the same pattern. 1 Quote
Cole Richards Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Got some bass and northern today , 8 to 11 FOW with a shakey head paired with a rage tail cutter worm , and a custom spinnerbait . Went through some smaller fish on the worm and felt like I needed to pick up the spinnerbait . Boom 3rd cast it gets smoked by a 33 inch pike that weighed in a 12 lbs , heck of a fighter too. Always nice to get a big one in the boat. 3 Quote
Josh Smith Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Spawn is now full-on in the Wabash and surrounding areas. Couldn't find a bass not on a bed today! Josh 2 Quote
neocrunch Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 A lousy day of fishing still beats a good day at work. That said, today was a lousy day of fishing. I got to Summit at dawn. There must have been a couple of different tournaments taking place. It was packed. I really tried to mix it up - trying different depths, colors, and presentations. I only caught a few tiny bass and lost a larger one at the kayak (I really need to get a net). I just couldn't find the fish. Not even the Ned rig could save me. After nearly six hours of fighting the wind and getting cramped by inconsiderate tournament bros, I packed up and came home. I'm going to try to get back out on the water again on Tuesday. Not sure if I'll go back to Summit or try my luck somewhere else. 1 Quote
tstraub Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 We went to the campground and had OK fishing. High winds made boat control difficult and we had a hard time finding active bass but my oldest son did get a 17 inch largemouth on a spinner bait and a dink on a lipless crank. Â Panfish were biting on small minnow swim jigs and live bait. Â We cleaned about 30 fish mostly bluegill and a few crappie. Â I'll add a picture of the best fish of the day later. I'm posting from my phone with a poor signal so the picture will not upload. 1 Quote
OddChase Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Found an awesome retention pond not 5 minutes from my house. Managed to catch a nice bass on a black chatterbait and missed 3 others. The pond is very murky because it's fed by run-off water, what are some lures I should try there? Quote
