Gohoosiers09 Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Well I hit the bank today was like 50 some degrees today in Fort Wayne and I got skunked. I wasn’t shocked, new place and I don’t believe it’s quite time to hit it hard yet. Quote
Motoboss Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Got the kayak rigged and ready to roll and the bottom drops out, like 34* and snow flurries. Indiana ? Quote
260Bass365 Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 First time poster, but I got out on Feb 19th and did catch one real nice bass...2nd largest I've caught in Indiana. Water temp was 38 and this past weekend it just cracked 40. 2 Quote

This thread doesn't have the participation that it used to. I'm as guilty as anyone for that. 1 Quote
RipzLipz Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I've not been regularly posting in here either. Have been out three times so far this year, one Sunday in Feb, then the following Sat & Sun right after a hard Friday night rain where we got 1.5-2" overnight. First trip out, I caught 5-6 under 2lbs & lost a 5-6 lber at the boat at a small public reservoir. The following weekend after the big rain the small reservoir was chocolate milk at the upper end & had leaves floating all around the best stretches which would have needed a 1-2oz punch weight to get through but cleared off near the lower end of the lake, where we caught all of our fish. Caught 7-8 under 2lbs, no big ones. Next day went to a private strip pit over near Terre Haute & the only bite we got was a 4-13 that my step son caught & up to this point is his PB. All fish were caught on 1/2 oz. Dirty Jigs flipping jigs with Rage Bug trailers. Pic of the 4-13: 2 Quote
RipzLipz Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Made another trip over to the strip pit early Sunday afternoon & upon arrival, was a bit breezy & water was stained from the 3-4" of rain we got over the previous few days & nights. Water temps still cold to the touch. Started out throwing a 1/2oz jig getting a bite & drop in the first dozen or so casts. No more takers so after hitting a few key areas, I switched to a bluegill colored chatterbait with a paddletail Keitech trailer. Still no takers. Threw out a white & chartreuse single Colorado blade spinnerbait with a Zoom twin tail grub trailer & had this 5-5 beauty absolutely crush it right off the end of a laydown in about 5 FOW. She also had a bluegill tail just barely sticking out of her gullet - gluttonous hog, but that’s the way we like ‘em, don’t we? My dad had a smaller fish on a spinnerbait as well but it came unbuttoned. I only saw the head of it & was guessing it was probably under 3lbs. Only 3 bites for the day but always worth the trip when the bigger gals are hungry. Overall the fishing was slow but the big gals are chewing right now, which is why I love fishing this time of year. 2 Quote
RipzLipz Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Went back to the same strip pit Sunday afternoon - was a bit windy but manageable. Dad wasn't in the mood for waiting so one lap around the place was all I got in this time. Had 2 bites on a jig but both were dropped before I could set the hook. Water didn't feel much warmer. Friday night storms probably still had them turned off. Probably wasn't on the water for much more than 2 hours. Warmer weather coming this week & I expect to see fish on beds before the end of the month if the 10 day forecasted temps hold true. Haven't had a chance to get back to the public lake an hour south of me yet. Will be the first year I've fished it the whole year - will be interesting to see how the fish behave & when & where they spawn. Quote
RipzLipz Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Wind, rain & cooler temps didn’t keep me indoors for long. Got out Sunday on the public lake with my son dragging jigs once again. More males moved up shallow & water temps were warmer than air temps. Managed 12 to 15 fish total with the kid catching the biggest of the day, a nice fat 4-12 off of a shallow rocky flat: My dad & I returned the next afternoon & managed another 15 with me catching a nice fatty that went 4 even. Cooler weather seemed to delay the rush to the shallows a bit. More small males than previous outings but no sightings of beds nor irritated tails. My bet is the next full moon will be it. They’re close. 1 Quote

Motoboss Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Just an opportunity to revive the Hoosier thread. So here it is late Spring in Indiana and not much fishing to be had for me. My canoe project is still underway and the weather has been consistently inconsistent. 70’s one day and 50’s the next, nightly temps in the 40’s, with almost constant rain. It’s been tough to even get the lawn mowed with the crazy weather! I’ve been to the river a few times but nada. Most of the last month, or better it has been blown out from high water. I do know a few folks who have done ok the few times they were able to catch the water down, but I haven’t been that fortunate. And I guess it’s really mostly dependent on where you’re at on the river system. Additionally my Wife has developed a serious health issue and our attention has been pointed in other directions and suddenly fishing doesn’t seem that important. Hopefully a warm summer will develop and the fishing window will open wider for the Hoosier State. Tight lines all! Quote
frosty Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 Hello my fellow Hoosiers! It’s been awhile, haven’t fished more than a handful of times the last few years, work, kids, other obligations. Took my son out a couple weeks ago and he did ok, 12 small bluegill but it kept him entertained, I only managed a couple dinks. Hit up my local Facebook chatter and got access to a 5 acre pond. We got out a little later than I’d like today but I didn’t want to inconvenience the property owner, still managed a 1 1/2 pounder on a frog, a few smaller on a senco, and my last cast I nabbed a 2.60. Not bad for the high pressure conditions, my son only managed 2 bluegill and one garter snake. 1 Quote
Motoboss Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Ponds are usually absolutely great for the youngsters. Glad you have a chance to get out.👍🏼 1 Quote
Motoboss Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Any Hoosier folks going to fish the GRBY series next year ? They allow canoes as well as kayaks so I’m planning on one of the lake series and maybe a river event or two. Fished in my Oldtown AP last year in a regional series but only one river event as several of the events were canceled due to blow out conditions. It’s a really fun series with plenty of options and being able to fish on your own schedule is great. Anyone interested or planning on entering give a shout, be nice to have a partner on the lake. Motoboss Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 For any Hoosier folks interested in making a rod tube I have a 10 ft section of 8 inch pvc available. They only come in 20 ft lengths so I bit the bullet and bought the whole stick, quite pricey too! Along with the conduit kit you can make a fine rod tube at your choice of length. Anyway, asking $100. for the ten foot, eight inch pvc tube. Can meet anywhere around central Indiana. PM me if any interest Quote
