I had it figured that bass were finishing up spawning and have started to recover. Went out this morning and caught several on a wakebait and soft jerks including one over four lb. They were chasing bait in typical summer fashion. So then I read @Team9nineover in the pics thread and he says they're just starting. If anything he's south of me. What are you guys observing? they're mostly post spawn here and the bluegill are spawning big time, but there is still a few on beds. 1 1 Quote
Preytorien Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I'm seeing mostly post-spawn and not many taking anything I throw - save for a few on a good ole' Mepps #3 That summer slowdown is starting. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted May 23, 2018 Super User Posted May 23, 2018 No slowdown on the ponds here. Some bass still spawning, but those that aren't are marauding the bluegill in the shallows and along the weedlines. Chased a wave of spawning gills that just came up a couple days ago and managed about 30, along with several bass caught incidentally. 1 Quote

Took the day off for a nice 4-day weekend. Waders are out, checked and ready, tackle's sorted and ready to work. I'll let you know how it goes. Quote
frosty Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Got out early, caught a couple on top water, got a few dropshotting a zoom lizard, and got a couple on the jig. They were biting, but it was slow between bites. Hiked back to a juicy looking spot and came up empty. That made the 1 1/2 mile hike back pretty tiring. Quote
The Bassman Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Today was my Memorial Day holiday. Have to work through the weekend. Fished my favorite HOA lakes this morning and had steady action using a Bandit Footloose shallow crank. No bigs but lots of 1-2.5 lbrs. I wanted to creek wade but had to do a car shuffle with my wife because of a repair so time wouldn't let me. Streams are absolutely perfect right now. 2 Quote
frosty Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 @CroakHunter I tried a 12” worm on a jig today and got 3! I’ll at that to my confidence baits! Quote

Caught a bunch on a black and blue jig with a rage chunk craw trailer. Got out at 6:00, took me an hour to figure them out, then about 9:30, 10 o’clock, the bite just died? I don’t know what happened, but they locked down and weren’t biting anything! 1 Quote

Same here! It was that way this weekend too! I had a 4 day weekend so I got lots of fishing in, including Eagle Creek on the Kayaks. Didn't catch anything there, did lose one. Anyone know the patterns out there and willing to share? Also I'll upload photos from this weekend later today. Happy Memorial day folks! 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 With this heat, the gills appear to be done spawning, as do the bass. Lots of smaller fish hanging in the shallows, but several nicer ones are too, though many were skinny post-spawners. Still caught between 45-50 Monday and Tuesday afternoon including several sight fishing (becoming a favorite way to target them). 2 Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Headed out to St. Clair in the morning for 4 days of wearing smallies out. Will be my first time throwing tubes and the first good stress test of my new Ultrex. Hopefully the 52" shaft keeps the prop wet out in open water chop. 1 Quote

Neighborhood lakes like the one behind you comprise most of my fishing activity. As much as I love to wade for smallmouth this approach is becoming much more practical for me because of some foot issues. And let's face it; these ponds are darn productive. 1 Quote
