Saw several yesterday on beds out around Brazil. Hopefully in a couple weeks they’re in a post spawn mood for my vacation ?

Has anyone gotten on a topwater bite yet? I'm putting in a last minute T. WH order before I head to Patoka this Friday I don't think I'll need any topwaters this early, but you never know

I have only fished Brookville, Geist, and various ponds this year and haven’t had any topwater hits.

Did get a couple on a spook the other day but my go to right now seems to be a Baby 1-Minus, especially with a little wind blowing.

I fished a frog a little Saturday but didn’t have any luck, I’m not sure I’d rule it out though?

We caught a keeper instantly on a buzzbait Saturday morning. And a friend went last weekend with a jitterbug at night and got 6. Bluegill are in the shallows so I wouldn't rule it out.

Did pretty well on Saturday with a small rico popper.  You may want to have a buzzbait tied on to fish in and around Patoka's timber...

I didn’t get any bites but I also didn’t have any dedicated time to try and repeatedly work on bed fish. Wasn’t the best time to be a co angler.

I fished Missessenawa at red bridge this morning in my row boat couldn't get any bass to bite so I picked up my crappie rod and got a few nice crappie and one drink largemouth on an Arkie sexy tail shad.

Had a tournament on Brookville last Sunday, prefishing on Saturday went well but there was 2 tournaments on both Saturday and Sunday, and the fish just didn't hold up to that much pressure.

I expected bedding smallmouth given water temperature in the mid to low 60s, but we didn't find a single bed and all of our fish were still prespawn. We put together a very predictable pattern of running steep dropping, mainlake areas on the lower end where the channel swung in close to the shore with large rock bottom transitioning into gravel, throwing keitech 2.8s, deep jerks, and neds in 8-20 feet.  Caught several limits of smallmouth prefishing, as did most people that day.

Come Sunday morning, we launched as boat #126 out of 129 boats, and just barely squeaked together 2 keepers (one was luck, we saw a group of herrons on the shore and figured they had a shad school, and it turns out they did and some smallies in pursuit). Had 3 fish less than a 1/4 inch short, one literally a hair breadth short, but that's how it goes. The fish shut down and pulled off of the shoreline for the most part, some suspending and some on the bottom.

Ended up in 22nd out of 129 boats, only about 30 boats weighed fish with the winning bag weighing 12.8 pounds, caught flipping largemouth in the backs of coves. The other local tournament going on Sunday only had 6 boats out of 30 weigh fish, dunno what the winning bag was.

came out with a decent finish, but was a bit disappointed for a day that we expected to be culling some good smallies instead of only 2 keepers. Can't seem to shake sitting at the roughly 20% mark, guess we're consistent though lol.

Fishing Patoka all day today. So far incredibly slow, no fish. Started early with a buzzbait. Sun got higher and tried a brush hog, spinnerbait, chatterbait, paddletail, jig & craw. Mostly foshed coves/backs of creeks. Water is fairly stained and high, so beds are hard to see. Bluebird skies. Supposed to start getting a little cloudier around 5, hopefully that will help.

Uh... yes! Definitely get the popper stopper, never the whopper plopper, those things are junk! The popper stopper was working for most of the morning!

Caught a good number of largemouth today on some top water on the fly rod. Great time to get out and go fishing.

Well fellas,

After a little of a hiatus, I'm back! School at Alabama was great but glad to be back in Indy for awhile. Have caught a few fish in the last few days but nothing amazing, the fish are just starting to bed so they are not so interested in eating, have to really work for them!

Also, to all the Hoosiers that have contributed to this thread, thank you! I had no idea when I created this thread it would go so far.

I wish! I really didn't do much as I didn't have room to take my gear or much time to go fishing. That said this year I am bringing my gear, and if I can get an on campus job my truck (and I'm going to buy a kayak to fish Lakes Nicol and Harris). I did get to do some hiking at both lakes and they were absolutely amazing views!

Sounds awesome! Hopefully you can get out there and get some of those big fish those southern guys are always bragging about!

A couple tournament updates.

April 28th I competed in the KBF Trail Event on Kentucky Lake. I finished 27th out of 79. I got on fish early and continued to catch them all day but just couldn’t find the size needed to make a run at the top. The bass were moving up into the shallows in and around the bushes transitioning into the spawn. I flipped the bushes all day catching those fish

This last Saturday I competed in the Southern Indiana Yak Angler Klub event held in Warrick county. I finished 2nd out of 33. I chose to fish a location the bass boats can’t get to.   It was a day of adjustments. Had my first catch on the board with a chatterbait within the first 2 minutes. Then I could feel the bass hitting the chatterbait and not fully commiting to the bite so ai slowed down using a fluke to fill out my limit. By this time the sun was up and not a cloud in the sky. I tried flipping the bushes and trees around the edges but never got a bite so I went back to where I was catching them early and switch to a finesse presentation and started upgrading. Caught my last upgrade 30 minutes before the last submission to solidify my second place.

Anybody been to the Gander Outdoors in Castleton? I need to get some stuff and am having some issues.

1) I refuse to shop at Dick's Sporting Goods now due to their 2A stances.

2) Walmart doesn't have anything that I need and frankly I don't enjoy going into the Walmart in Avon.

3) Meijer only had some of the things I need, although frankly they have a way better sporting goods section than Walmart (thank the lord).

4) Honey Creek Tackle is an hour away and they close one hour after I get off work.

Not sure the trip all the way to Castleton is worth it to be honest. The Gander in Avon was supposed to reopen but it didn't. Not that I cared for it much anyways.

I miss Galyans.

Just order it on TW, it’s about the only option if you aren’t going to shop at dicks. I don’t shop their anymore either, unfortunately every store pulled the same crap, so it doesn’t really matter. Just an FYI for you guys, the Walmart in greencastle has Zman TRD’s and shroom heads!

I'm in Gander regularly.  No better, no worse than GM was. No store brands like GM. They better start advertising or they'll not be around long.  The store is never busy.
