Was thinking about getting out on the kayak today but I can do cold and I can do rain but I really don’t enjoy 40 degrees and rain.

I’m planning to do my first scouting trip for KBF Nation Championships on Kentucky Lake next weekend, so I will probably continue to review Navionics and Google Earth to Identify potential prime locations for March.

I spent yesterday afternoon looking for spots on in Kentucky Lake, using Navionics and Google Earth. Having The Chart on the laptop and Google Earth on the big screen works the best for me cause I can look at the same spots at the same time in two different ways.

Jerkbait bite is still hot, hopefully it lasts a few more weeks and this rain doesn't muddy up the water.  Got a little over 6' of clarity in the upper end, and even more in the lower lake areas.  I've been out for at least an hour or three every day lately, and it's been a pretty steady 7-12 bass an hour.  Mostly getting them on vision 110s, but a shaky head has been mopping up a god number of fish after an area has been hit with a jerkbait.  Even got on some big crappies last night, caught 19 fish in under an hour with 14 of them being crappie in the 12-14 inch range.  Only a couple less than 13, and none smaller than 12.  Got them on the vision 110 too, all stacked up around an underwater tree that has a branch that sticks up out of 18 feet up to 7' beneath the surface (you can actually see that branch right now), off of a steep dropping bank in the upper part of the lake.  They were suspending around the top branch, somewhat loosely schooled,  but very aggressive.

I know it's chilly out there, but if you guys have the opportunity to get out, do so.  In my opinion, the fishing right now is second only to the spring bite.  And as the fish are for the most part grouped together now, the multi species action can include some nice bonus fish.

What water temp you got? I had 42 on Sat and I doubt it got warmer.. I'd love to get out yet but my motor had some issues so I kinda doubt it'll happen.

Roughly 46-50 depending on where in the lake you are.  I'm a bit south of you though, about even west of Indianapolis

Yeah I'm only a few miles south of the MI line. The little lake I fish has a river going through one end which might make the temps change faster.

At least the water movement will help keep it from freezing up for a little while longer, I doubt I have more than 3 or maybe 4 weeks till the ice gets to thick to break through with my boat or canoe.

Got out a little yesterday while the sun was still pretty high.  Had a brief flurry of action on a shallow bank with a small Rapala Husky jerk.  Caught five with one close to 4 lb. Sun got low fast and it was over just as fast. Sun and wind direction is everything on the small waters I fish.  Just got some Big Dude bladebaits that @Scott F had recommended and am anxious to try them in one lake I fish that has a fairly clean bottom.

Thought that might have been you we passed on that point, but wasn't sure cause of the different boat.  You looked like you pretty much knew exactly where the best fishing is right now, you hit each of my current three best spots right in a row while we were trying to retrieve a jerkbait i broke off the night before;)  Your Bucktails still left a good number of fish for our shaky heads and jerkbaits though:)

I was with a retired friend who called me that morning and asked if I wanted to go out there later that day. He has a camper over in that section. We were just about to leave shortly after we saw you. He had to get home for an evening event.

Never picked up the hair jig all afternoon. Jerkbaits the whole time. We caught a bunch of crappie on that spot along with about a dozen bass. Found one other good crappie spot down lake. Left them biting as they say - lol. Ended with about 32 bass in 3.5 hrs (1:30 to 5:00), so not too bad. Just hole hopped the whole time. He doesn't have a depth finder up by the trolling motor, so just kind of winged it on positioning. Best fish was the one I posted in "Latest Catch pics" thread. We each lost a big one, also.

Do any of you guys here meet in a semi- centrally located lake and fish with/against one another? I think it would be best to meet some fellow hoosier anglers. I know I'm way South of everyone on this thread though.

There was talk of a meet up about a year ago but it hasn’t happened.

I’m down in Columbus, where are you?

I'm around 25 minutes north of evansville.

Have you ever fished Bluegrass FWA , supposed to be a big bass factory

I haven't. But I have heard that. I mainly fish private/semi private strip pits that Are pretty fantastic. I'd love to get out on bluegrass though. Especially since there's a chance to land a musky

My grandpa and I are planning a trip to turtle creek and patoka lake for next year. Turtle creek yielded a 10lber last year

You shouldn't be to far from Indian and Celina lakes then, both are great fisheries !

I'll put them on the list

By the time I get home from work, there's only an hour of daylight left but I've still managed to catch a handful in that hour on a swim jig, rico, and pointers.  The slender pointer mr 112 and the flash pointer sp 115 just wreck them this time of year.  Looking forward to next week when I'll be able to get on the water while the sun is high.  Water temps are steadily dropping, 48 on Monday to 42 on Thursday.  Saturday's rain may bring those temps up a bit.

I had a tournament on both of those lakes this summer. Celina is very clear, so keep that in mind if you fish there. I saw a lot of big bass when I was out there.

I compete against a lot a lot of guys that fish Bluegrass. If you find the right spots there are some monsters.

I know it's a good deep water fishery. At least loon pit and bluegrass pit are

Starting to look like the show is winding down for the season for me. Got out this morning before the storms and caught a couple but got tired of getting rained on. I envy you guys with boats and electronics. Surely extends your season to ice up.
