Mostly smallmouth with a few dink largemouth. I had my first ever limit of bass. The biggest was 19" and the others were 14" or a little above. Most were caught on a blade bait and a 1/16th oz black hair jig. Also got a few on a jerkbait. The water temp was 47 which was colder than I figured it would be. Guess I pretty much missed the prime jerkbait bite.  Nice fish, and don't worry the best jerkbait bite is in the 43-48 degree temperatures (IMHO), so you are just getting into that bite. We've still got ~55 degree water down here, depending. Fishing actually usually picks up for me once the water drops into the mid 40s, as long as visibility stays good. 1 Quote

KLoell Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 I plan on getting out Sunday.  Not sure what I’ll be throwing.  Last week water temp was about 53 and windy.  Didn’t have a single bite.  Any suggestions for me for this weekend?? Quote

The Bassman Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Talking about big wind and storms Sun. Glad my feet are on the ground. Quote
CroakHunter Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 10 From the bank today in an hour and a half. 76 degrees, 20 mph winds. Fish were cool, but not cold. Water temp in the high 50's or low 60's probably. Lipless, jig, spinnerbait. Biggest on jig, most on lipless Quote
IndianaOutdoors Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Was out on Friday. Wind wasn't too bad. Surface temp was 50°F. The weed beds are mostly gone. Thermocline wasn't showing on sonar at all. Marked allot of fish at 30 ft in several spots either on bottom or suspended. Couldn't buy a bite. Tried jigging spoons and dragging jigs. I have no confidence fishing that deep. Tried pitching a paddletail around docks and what was left of weed beds. No bites. Still enjoyed being on the water though. There were allot of muskie guys on the water too. The Bassman Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Got out this morning before storms rolled in. Had good action on lipless. You probably know by now that's my favorite presentation. Caught about 20 in 2 1/2 hrs. Three were 3 lbs. or so. Interesting note, I had several followers that I was able to get with a quick toss back. Lots of fun. Storms coming then a cool down but I don't think we're done yet. 1 Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Great weekend for fishing. On Sunday me and a buddy located a school back in a cove and started playing "who gets their lure back to the boat first without a fish." You gotta love that game. We caught them on whopper p's, gunfish, and buzzbaits, but the big girls were choking on swim jigs.  Kept looking at radar and finally left around 2, right b4 the storms hit.  I agree with @The Bassman, were not done yet. I usually fish through thanksgiving, and this year with the late fall I could easily see fishing into the first or second week of December. 1 Quote
The Bassman Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Even with things murky and water everywhere I managed a few this afternoon. Nothing big. Checked the long range maps and they show us above normal temps after this week. Global warming is going to have us fishing all year. I remember so many Novembers that were very winter like in the past. 1 Quote
nighthawk25 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Took out my little boat after having it on the water all summer. I caught 1 nice crappie and snagged a dink with a bladebait. Took the boat out and switched lakes. In less than an hour I had around 10 with most of those keeper sized, on a blade and lipless crankbait. 4 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Water temperature is down to 55 here, and with 6-7 feet of visibility even in the upper ends of the lake, jerkbait season is starting up. Caught 18 in about 2 hours the other day on a vision 110, a solid limit of keepers and a 14.5 inch bonus crappie made it even better. They aren't quite onto the wintering areas yet, but they are starting to show up in some of them. Catching most of them nearby the steeper banks that they will move onto soon. As long as visibility stays good, this bite should keep getting better as they stack up tighter 1 Quote
Alan Reed Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Fished Monroe Saturday with some friends. It was tough fishing. Of the 4 of us I was the only one to catch any. I caught my first hybrid striper and a nice 6 lb LMB along with a few smaller ones. The water temp was in the mid 50’s with some wind creating some current around the weeds. 4 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Had another good day out on the water this afternoon, I fished from 3:30-6 and caught 23 fish. Mostly largemouth, but a few white bass and a decent crappie annihilated my vision 110 too. Two soft twitches and a 1-2 seconds pause was the ticket today. Water temperature dropped another two degrees last night, down to 52-54 depending on where you are in the lake (still 6-7 feet of visibility). There was a surprising amount of bass that moved onto the winter areas today, much more than yesterday. Almost all of them came on steep dropping banks.  1 Quote
The Bassman Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Got out this afternoon before the cold front. Fished a large neighborhood lake close to home and had some of my best action of the year. Bass were all over my One Knocker. Wind direction, sun, and location (long narrow cove) concentrated shad and bass. Caught several over 3 with two 5+. The biggest had a large shad sticking out of her mouth. Cant wait to try these sun-ward areas come spring. Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Got out tonight from 430 to 6 and mannnnnnn it was tough. Water temp was 55-56, but with the N winds the air temp felt cold AF.  Clarity was at least 10' and we couldn't figure out any kind of pattern. Humminbird was showing a crazy looking thermocline at 6' on most of the lake. My guess is the lake just turned over.  Managed 2 on a gunfish behind a front runner in open water, 1 on a swim jig off a dock, and my buddy got 1 on a jerkbait right at the boat. Brutal for this time of year. Cole Richards Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Water temps are in the low 40's up north . Air temps are in the 20's in the morning . Enjoy it while it lasts fellas . I would think ice season will be upon us before we know it . 1 Quote

nighthawk25 Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 We got out this morning about 9:30 and fished til 1:30. It was very tough. I caught 1 dink smallie and 1 dink largemouth and a rock bass. We fished blades, lipless, jerkbait, and jigs. Water temp was 42-43. Is it getting too cold for bass?? Quote

Nope, just got to slow down (usually, but not always) when it's that cold. Still make sure to experiment with speeds though, don't fall into doing the same thing over and over. Fish blade baits, jerkbaits, small bucktail hair jigs, and shaky heads on steep dropping banks where the channel swings into the bank. The dam is always a good spot in the winter. Had some great days in 39-40 degree water, but you can't plan on picking one off here and there like sometimes happens in the warmer months, they tend to stack up much tighter (and the amount of time that they are active is usually shorter) but when the school gets active, fishing can be great if you're on them. Most of my very cold water fish are caught in a very narrow window of time during each outing.  BTW, had another great day doing what I explained above with 24 bass (including a 3.8 and several around 3) this afternoon. Shaky heads and jerkbaits were the ticket. 3 Quote
The Bassman Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 I would love to develop these techniques but I'm shore bound and fish shallower waters. Presuming I'll need to focus on warm spells and play the sun and wind as I did the other day. I'm older so spring will seem to come quicker. About now is when I start focusing on tackle and things I don't really need to buy. Quote
