Super User Team9nine Posted October 22, 2017 Super User Posted October 22, 2017 Good afternoon on Glenn Flint yesterday. Picked up 9 keepers deep cranking along with a couple shorts, and even got to catch a couple dozen crappie for fun before the wind got to be too much. Water temp mid 60s and lots of shad schools on the move. Fall is here. 5 Quote
Canoe57 Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Beautiful morning on the White River, just west of Muncie. Caught a 17.5" and 18" SM in the first 10 minutes. Followed it up with another 16" SM a while later. I caught them all on the black Whopper Plopper 110. 2 Quote

I was actually planning on going there last Saturday, until the brake lines on the suburban started squirting braking fluid and we lost almost all brakes (the emergency brake has also been broken for a few years). This was the day after we finally got the boat's motor fixed again.. Hazards of old stuff. Fishing is definitely getting better around here, lots of cranking (both shallow and deep) and some topwater going. Another month or so and the jerkbait bite should start 3 Quote

Finally moved and starting to unpack all the fishing gear. 1 Quote
frosty Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Hey, if any of you guys are looking for a little boat I’m going to be selling my Bass Raider, Just thought I’d mention it in case anybody was looking. I’d much rather sell to one of you guys than on Craigslist! Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Got on a good trap bite today, caught 28 bass throwing a 1/2 ounce rattle trap at wind blown points. Straight and fast retrieve, not quite what I'd call "burning" but close. Still to much snot grass to use shallow cranks, so traps are filling in for now. No monsters but it was fun catching some good numbers, plus I caught 2 small wipers. They are just starting to get larger than the white bass (wipers were stocked in low numbers 3 or 4 years ago), each fish measuring about 15 inches. 1 Quote
Cole Richards Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Got on a great spinner bait bite this weekend , it was nice to mix it up and fish some ponds . 2 Quote

Need to be careful with your pictures, I know exactly where you're at. Great fish though! I haven't got out much due to the low water conditions and school. 1 Quote

I have a few more spots. :-) I'm hoping to fish the entire river from Ohio to Daleville next summer, to find some more. I've covered about 11 miles of it since early September. IndianaFinesse Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Got out in the cold, windy rain for 45 minutes before dark today, and despite the massive cold front nailed a 16+ pound limit in the short time. It was awesome, only caught five fish but they were definitely the right ones. Four of them in the 2.75-3.5 pound range, and a 4.2 pound kicker. Caught them on a red eye shad retrieved with a burn and pause, I'd burn it 10-12 feet then pause to let it flutter down to the bottom before doing it again. My hands and face went numb, but I can't complain about the great fishing! BTW, I upgraded the hooks on the redeye shad to mustad triple grips and swapped the 6'6" mh/f rod out for a 6'6" (fishes between a medium and medium heavy) mod-fast rod (thanks again Brian!), which solved the landing percentage issues I was having last time. 1 Quote

Nice catch. Best all-around, moving bait rod, ever. In my book, no other rod can touch that one for the money. Too bad they're not made anymore. 1 Quote

Night and day difference, they don't even fish somewhat similarly. I wouldn't even own the newer model if I hadn't pulled it out of the lake. That rod has got more use so far than any of my other baitcasters since you gave it to me. Quote

IndianaFinesse Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Just now, CroakHunter said: What is this mystery rod? Lol One of the older models of gallions, from back when st. Croix still made them. The one's labeled "IM7" are the good ones, but the newer IM8 models aren't as good. The older rods supposedly have a lower quality graphite ( I kinda doubt they actually do), but they are much more sensitive. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Caught my second biggest ever smallie yesterday, from a lake that doesn't have a fishable population of smallmouth. I've only caught five so far this year from this lake, but the one I got yesterday weighed 4.04 pounds! It measured 20 1/2 inches, and would have been longer if it hadn't had a pug face and a lower jaw that was over half an inch shorter than the upper jaw. Caught her on a 1/2 ounce rattle trap cranked medium speed with a few pauses mixed into the retrieve, on a main lake point. Also caught 21 other bass in 2 hours, with a decent 11.4 pound limit (I weighed all the keepers). 4 Quote
The Bassman Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Got on a real good bite yesterday with Booyah One Knocker lipless. Could see shad moving on the surface. As long as I followed the shad I caught fish. I'm curious of your guys experiences with turnover. I thought yesterday's freeze would get it going but obviously not. 3 Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 You two are making me want to tie on a rattle trap! Congrats on the smallie @IndianaFinesse @TheBassman where you seeing shad in a cove or on main lake 1 Quote

Alan Reed Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I have to thank all of you that have offered me advice and *** over the past 2 years. This was my second year fishing and first year kayak tournament fishing and this last weekend I captured the Southern Indiana Yak angler Klub (SIYAK) 2017 Angler of the year. The input I have gotten from this group has greatly accelerated my learning, so Thank You! 6 Quote

Not sure why that was deleted. This summer I have been very busy fishing not much time on the internet. I fished three Kayak series, finished top 10 in each, fished the KBF Monthly tournaments, and qualified for KBF Nationals on Kentucky Lake in March, fished KBS Classic which is their national Championship on Gunterville in September and finished 9th in the nation. The AOY sealed everything up for a really good year. 3 Quote

nighthawk25 Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Finally got out last night. I had 14 bass and 1 carp in about 3.5 hours. Mostly smallmouth with a few dink largemouth. I had my first ever limit of bass. The biggest was 19" and the others were 14" or a little above. Most were caught on a blade bait and a 1/16th oz black hair jig. Also got a few on a jerkbait. The water temp was 47 which was colder than I figured it would be. Guess I pretty much missed the prime jerkbait bite. 1 Quote
