Just got about 40 minutes on the water after a long night at work. Hit a little drainage pond. I've made comments about not liking topwater as much as the next guy but I regret saying that. Threw the popper around on my jerkbait setup. 10 fish. all were smashing it. Awesome little quick trip. They liked it when I'd make it spit with short pauses.

Hit some local ponds throughout the day, caught a couple dozen of these things. Most of them on the icon

Thanks & No. I'm guessing 4 - 4-1/2, possibly 5. Not being sarcastic but only bragging on our pond fishing, 4 - 5 pounders are real common where I fish, my biggest is 6 lbs so if it's not at least that big I don't weigh them.

 that's ok, I don't like intruding on non-secret honey holes... I fish a small quarry in a public park, most people don't know you can fish there so I get the same question anytime somebody sees me fishing, and my answer is always caught a couple, lots of little bluegill, a couple small bass... I never mention the string of 1 1/2-2 pound bass I catch on a regular basis, or the 3 I caught, or the fact I've seen some real bruisers in there, NEVER!

No, well, there's nothing specific saying no but it's about 3/4 of a mile walk to get to it. The sign says no swimming, no you just can't fall out  it averages about 3' deep so I guess you can walk across most of it. I was amazed at how many nice bass are in there.

Tried a new local subdivision pond last night. Chatterbait and Senko were all I needed to land three 2-pounders and two 3-pounders in just over an hour. The largest was 3.9.....some may call that a 4   Flat out destroyed my chatterbait and about pulled the rod from my hand. Never had a fish fight as hard as she did. Jumping all over the place, etc. Would've bet money that it was well over 5 by the way it pulled. 

 

The best feeling was me slaying them while everyone else around me was getting skunked. Usually it's the other way around.

Educate me on the rod along side the boat, is that for stabilizing it. 

That is my stake out pole. Shallow water anchor. I use that with an anchor trolley to either anchor in the front or the back.

Went Smallie fishing on the kayak for the first time. First time fishing on a river. Took me a little bit to figure it out but then I was smacking them. No trophys bu everyone of them was healthy and fat.

Westwood has a lot of bass in that size range! I've heard of people catching 3 or 4 pounders but could be fish tales. The panfish in Westwood however.... not so stunted.

There are large bass in westwood, but most "average" fisherman won't go and utilize the proper equipment to go where the bigger fish live. There is a ton of ultra thick vegetation on Westwood, I know some hogs have to survive up in that stuff.

Thinking about driving down to Patoka this weekend for bass. Can anyone tell me anything about that lake never been there before?

take a flippin stick with you.  there are giants in that lake.  a buddy caught an 8.5 in patoka last week flipping timber.  it's not the best lake for grass but I hear it's a little better this year than it has been.

I grew up about 30 minutes from patoka, never have fished it. My uncle fishes it a lot. He is a wizard at fishing deep and I believe that's where he has been slaying them. I'd flip timber and drag a jig/rig deep. How close are you to patoka. I'm about an hour southwest of it now

I'm 2 hours Northeast of the campground.

Find out what stage the bass are in in that part of the state .  Use your electronics to find them and the forage.  Then throw everything plus the kitchen sink at them til u get bit then repeat.  I'm guessing with the rains finally slowing down and the water temps and lvls getting back to normal the bite should be decent and about normal for this time of year especially with the big ass heat wave heading in on sunday..

They should be chasing better then as of late.  Now speculating based on the fish here they r probably past post spawn or at least dwindling down and more scattered.  moving on to there summer holding areas i.e. ledges weeds lillies deep flats and channels.  Sorry not more specific but its that time of year

All good stuff, I'm only 2 hours away so I am clear on the stage they are in. Just wasn't familiar with this particular lake.

Hi all.  Hope it is ok to change the subject.  I am new to bass fishing  and new to this forum.   I live in northern hamilton county (one county north of indianapolis).  I am considering buying one of those small plastic 2 man boats that are powered with a trolling motor so I can get off the shoreline.  What I  can't determine is if there are enough waters that aren't to big within a reasonable driving distance (60 minutes or so) that I could fish.  I understand these little boat are best for ponds and small lakes.  Closest bodies of water to me are Morse, Geist, and Eagle Creek reservoirs.  I could be wrong but these seem like they might be too big for such a tiny boat.  I don't mind fishing close to the ramp but don't want to be annoyed or put in danger by bigger boats.  The only other spots that I am aware of that would be ideal for these boats are Westwood which is almost 90 minutes away and Boones Pond which is only 30 minutes away.  Do any of you have suggestions for other good waters for small boats or experience with these on larger waters?

I've got one but unfortunately I've only been able to get it on the water twice, once with the wife and son, the other by myself, neither was a pleasant experience. The wife and boy aren't much into relaxing and fishing quietly, the second time I spent more time fighting the boat than actually fishing. One of these days I'm going to get it out and enjoy myself or die trying!

Welcome from another central IN angler. Unless I'm missing something you're in a bit of a dead zone for such opportunities. Boone's pond has never produced well for me but I haven't been there for years. Southwestern quarter of the state is fertile ground for small craft. Here around Indy I try to make friends with my painting customers and fish their retention lakes. Fishing can be excellent.  I also love to wade creeks. Kayaks seem to be gaining more favor over mini bass boats these days for small waters. I kind of like the idea of sitting up on a swivel seat myself if given the choice.
