Plus it's a solid blank and that makes for difficulties when it comes to transportation haha. I have a 7' spinning rod and it just barely makes it to the lake. Quote
dsqui Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 well that makes sense for me 7 3 is all the bigger my rod locker will hold so everything else gets strapped down. Quote

I have a blackout 7'0 MH/XF.  My father in law has a mojo bass 7' M/F that I have fished a few times.  We both use these rods primarily for weighted T-rigged worms.  They are both great rods.  The boat rarely leaves the pier without both rods on board.  I can't say that I prefer one over the other it's just not a fair comparison because they are different power and actions.  His mojo is a bit better with lighter lures but that's what I would expect out of a M/F rod my blackout drives the hooks home with less effort like you would expect a MH/XF rod to do.  They are both plenty sensitive, light weight, and comfortable to fish. I would recommend either one.  1 Quote
Wally Corder Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I dunno, I really dig the new mojo this year with the switch to the scIII blanks as opposed to the last gen scII. Quote
OddChase Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Hey guys I'm taking a week off of work soon now that summer classes are over. Is there any lakes in Indiana that I should visit? I'll have to rent a boat and I'm willing to drive a few hours, just want to test some new water. Northern smallie water would be preferred I might add. Quote
dsqui Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 lol northern smallie water in indiana never heard of such a thing...best lake around with a chance at a smallie that i know of is clear lake in fremont(steuben county) as far as boat rentals lake james comes to mind by angola great fishing if you dont mind all the pleasure traffic, ild reccomend hitting it on like a tuesday or wed. there is also big turkey which has been known to spit out some decent smallies occasionally its over in stroh Quote
Wally Corder Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Alright folks I need some help. We're going over to the Lake Tippecanoe chain "Big tippi, James Lake, Oswego, etc..." for awhile in August and I'm looking for pointers so we don't end up getting skunked. I know the musky bite is probably going to be terrible with the water being so warm but what about the LMB and others? I see us doing a lot of top water frogging, jigs, dropshot/carolina/texas rigs, and dock skipping but does anyone know something they would care sharing so my family and I have a better chance and having a fish story or two to come back home with? Thanks in advance! Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Sorry I haven't posted on here in while, mostly because I've been to busy fishing.. Bass are still on a great topwater bite, namely frogs and the whopper plopper. Â The bass are on main lake points and weed beds in eight to twelve feet of water, but when the sun gets higher I move to main lake docks. Â I start out in the morning throwing a whopper plopper, and later on switch to skipping frogs underneath docks and flipping deep weed beds. Â Anyway, today I was skipping docks on main lake points with a popping pad crasher when I caught my pb frog fish that measured 22 inches and 5.34 pounds! Â I haven't caught one that big since the pre-spawn period. Â It was under this tiny 2 foot by six foot old dock on a point in seven feet of water, not exactly a great looking dock. Â Seeing big bass come up to the surface and smash my frog is an adrenaline rush, I don't know why I didn't throw topwater much last year. 6 Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Congrats on your new Frog PB. Â I've also had a lot of success this summer on topwater. Â Lobina Rico and whopper plopper have been money! Â Changing hooks on the whopper plopper made a big difference. Â 3 Quote
OddChase Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Caught some nice bass pitching senkos and creature baits along a grass line. Saw another boat catching bass using a floating worm in the same areas. The dog days of summer are upon us. 1 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I tried night fishing a few days ago. I tore them up from 8:30 to 10 pm., with 13 bass caught on a frog, whopper plopper, and a senko with nine over fifteen inches all on points. My best five weighed twelve pounds with big bass weighing 3.8. Sounds pretty good, but I didn't catch a single fish from 10 till 2 am. I don't know what I was doing wrong, I tried noisy topwater, subtle plastics, spinnerbaits, deeper, shallower, etc. Do you guys have any idea as to what I should do when the bite shuts down when the sun sets? OK - that explains it. No reports because I stopped bass fishing for a while there and was chasing everything else - mostly crappie, walleye, and white bass, and hitting some other lakes in the area. Just started fishing bass again the past 2 weekends. Not getting out much, usually just for 2.5 hours once or twice a week, so not much to write about. Been catching most of what I've been catching on finesse worms, both Ned style and shaky. -T9 1 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Fished this morning from 6:30 till 11:30. Â I tried fishing an offshore hump that comes out of 28 feet of water in the channel and tops out at 8, but didn't catch a single bass. Â Interestingly I caught a handful of big bluegill, they somehow managed to get the hook on my Carolina rig. Â I finally gave up and started fishing in my usual areas with about an hour of time left. Â Only caught five bass with two over fifteen inches, all on the junior pad crasher skipped under docks on points. Â Quote

Weightless wacky senkos in dark colors towards the bank, or a single Colorado blade dark spinnerbait.  Fished some gravel pits on Saturday and a reservoir on Sunday.  Fish were stacked under docks and in offshore grass in both locations.  Fishing both inner and outer grass line edges paid off.  On Saturday we found a spot with a depth of 12-14' with grass coming up to 5'. There was a nice breeze coming in from the West, so we tied on jerkbaits and started fishing them above the grass and wore those largemouths out.  I've honestly never fished jerkbaits in 80+ degree water before but man that was exciting.  I need a new topwater rod.  Can anyone recommend a 6'6" - 6'9" medium casting rod with an extra-fast tip under $160 ? Many thanks 1 Quote
BassOnKlinger Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 From Northern Indiana.  Currently living around Indy. Working in Lafayette. Haven't had much time lately to fish. Would like to get out more often once these temps cool down. I'm a bank fisherman so finding decent places can be tough. I don't have access to a lot of ponds/lakes that produce for bank fishermen. Quote

I know some guys don't like to give away their spots, so I'll understand.  Just curious. These are some giants. Quote

I think he said they caught about 25 fish in about 5 hours. Average was 3-3.5 Â Biggest was 6. Â Never fails with those private lakes. Just sucks for us common folk. haha Quote
BassOnKlinger Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Had some time during lunch to check our Fairfield Lakes in Lafayette. Â Beautiful area with 4 lakes and trails. Not very many people there. I went to one end of a lake and fished some scum with a frog. Three blowups in 5 minutes. No hooksets though. Pretty happy with that amount of action in the short 30 minutes I was there. Looking forward to getting back out there when it's not high-noon and 90 degrees. Anyone with experience out at this place? Quote
