I'll sell you my 12' three seater and two or three trolling motors for cheap.

I may take you up on that when I get ready to buy, probably not going to happen this summer though, unfortunately

its always funny how everyone thinks 14 foot jonboats are easy to load by yourself.  ya it can be done but its a real pain by yourself ya they dont weigh much but its 14 foot of all awkwardness.  if it were me ild try to find one used with  a trailer alot easier to load even by hand

I don't understand why it would be that difficult, granted its 100+ lbs, but it's not like you have to bench press it off the ground. One end goes on the tailgate, then pick up the back and push it in the bed.

Have you ever tried carrying a big bag of mulch? It's rather awkward. Now imagine it being 14' long and weighing 20 times more. I don't think that 100lbs would be a problem for you, the problem occurs when you try to pick up this big awkward piece of metal. I imagine it is doable, but it's just a pain.

just picking up the front of the boat and sitting it one the tail gate sounds great and ya thats how most guys do it.  now imagine you just spent 5 hours on the lake in your brand new boat you get back to your truck now unload everything thats in it and sit it on the ground near your truck...  now pick up one end of that brand new boat that looks all pretty and drag the other end across the rocks and gravel to your truck to sit it on the tail gate.  ahhh now the easy part pick up other end and slide it in.  oh no now look at the scratches and rips on the seem of your brand new boat. boy good thing it wasnt loaded with your stuff or itld be worse now for the dreaded trip home even after walking around your truck 3 times to make sure you picked everything up, did i remember to grab this or pick up that.  not sure how many tackle boxes and fishiong poles ive found and lost like that.  not to bad when you r tackle consists of a rod or two couple spinner baits bobbers sinkers hooks a couple bags of plastics and a crank or two but man loosing a rod you cant just go grab at walmart really sucks.  not to mention every few years youll have to get the boat welded from dragging it.  not trying to discourage you at all just tryin to give you a heads up on whats down the road.  if i were you and trust me i was there onceand went with the back of the truck boat myself next year i bought a trailer. ild look for one that is used with a trailerand save yourself alot of headache even if it comes with a motor you can always sell the motor and get some money back

They way I see it is I couldn't afford a trailer at the time and loading and unloading a Jon boat really isn't that bad as long as you don't rush it.  However it isn't as convienent as having a trailer but I'll take the minor inconvenience if that means I can get out on the water and hit those spots I've been eyeing for the past years from the shore.

ya i was just sayin you could find one used iwth trailer and motor for almost what you would get one new for

Bad night this evening.

Hooked up with a largemouth with a crankbait -- the critter was almost to me and spat it at me.

A few minutes later I hooked up using a frog.  It got halfway to me and got off.

Not my best showing.

Took a walk last evening to our pond, had two solid hard hits on my topwater Stanley Ribbit frog setup.  Ned rig must have spoiled me because I missed hook sets on both.

ill take a stanley ribbit in my pond over the ned any day of the week.  but frogs have always been my favorite thing to fish.  plus the frogs seem to put better quality fish in the boat where the ned seems to put a few more numbers in.

My day of fishing in pictures

rod broke on the third cast, tie rid broke on the way through the creeks! Luckily I was able to put it back together and wrap it with a dog leash that I neglected to take out of the truck. It got me and the boy home! If any of you have been out to the Owen-Putnam Forest you know it's extremely rough terrain even on the roads!

I'm planning on it as soon as I get the tie rod back in. I think I'll send the wife to get me a new fishing pole!

Both rods replaced.  I think I'll stay home and clean tomorrow!

Supposed to be rainy tomorrow anyways. I'm thinking about trying to get out early and beat the storms.

I've been thinking about that also, since the boy has me up at 5:30... Might as well run down to the park and see if I can locate them!

edit, I just looked at the radar... Looks like I'm just gonna stay home today <_<

Got out this morning in the drizzle. Managed to catch bigger than normal crappies... they seemed to be in their spawning locations despite the cold front AND being early July? Not sure what's really going on. Managed to hook some small bass on the Ned as well.

The weekend fishing was good but the catching was poor.  We managed about 6 or 7 bass over the weekend and a bunch of little bluegill crappie and golden shinners nothing great but it kept the kids busy.

I did add to 3 rods to the mix. Didn't need any but found some deals I just could not pass on.  I got a 7 for ugly sick spinning combo with a strike king spinner bait tied to it for $10.  Also got a quantum KVD casting rod on clearance for $14 original price was $100 seems like a good rod I'm sure there are better $100 rods but you would be hard pressed to find a nicer $14 rod.  And the prize jewel is a St Croix legend MH 6'6 casting rod for $10 with a penical deadbolt reel for an additional $8 I simply could not pass up on those deals.

Yep, only had one.  I really wanted to fish it more to get a feel for it but I found it very difficult to set that St Croix down.  First impression are it's a good rod split grip micro guides a heck of a deal on clearance.  But if I was going to spend retail price a would probably get another blackout over the KVD

I caught a couple of good looking bass from a farm pond yesterday on a brown SPRO rat.

I don't have much experience fishing rivers from a kayak but I'd like to go up and kayak fish the three rivers area in Fort Wayne soon. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the St. Mary's, St. Joseph, or Maumee rivers. Am I best off planning separate drop-off and pick-up points... or is the current slow enough that it's easy to paddle upstream?

It looks like there's an easily accessible launch on the St. Loseph at Schoaff Park (and maybe take out at the ramp on California Rd. (right before the river passes under the pathway bridge). I'm not sure how long it would take me to fish that stretch.

Or I could launch on the Maumee just below the Hosie Dam at Anthony Blvd (and maybe take out at the Rivergreenway Boat Dock).

Or maybe fish the St. Mary's between Foster Park and Guildin Park.

Thanks in advance for any advice or tips you might have to offer.

I saw bluegills on nests last weekend, I wasn't sure what the heck was going, the bluegill spawned in that pond around mid-may?

I got out for a couple hours this morning in the rain. I fished a public park that is heavily pressured, and most people don't have much luck there, I managed to get 1 dink, and two 2 pounders, all on red shad senkos Texas rigged and weightless.

Yeah the crappie are behaving super weird. Someone told me yesterday that they spawn year-round whenever there is a new moon. Some of the ones that we kept still had eggs in them so perhaps there is some truth to that theory. Bluegill spawned out long ago on the lakes in my area so it seems odd that you're finding them on beds.

I just thought they were hanging shallow in the morning and didn't pay much attention until I circled back around and noticed they were still there, and being extremely territorial. Most of the bluegill were spawning in this pond around mid to late May. I'm not sure why a select few would be spawning a month later?
