bassienewb Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Anyone been out to Cataract recently? When I was out there a month ago it was 10+' over pool. Might be able to get out on Sunday but will choose a different lake in the area if it's still well over normal. Quote

OddChase Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Crappie bite is on fire lately. 4-10 ft of water in both spawn and post spawn in different lakes. Managed to catch about 30 to 40 bass last weekend, mostly 13 to 16 inches in size with a big 19, all on either a ned rig or Z-Man chatterbait. 7 hours ago, dsqui said: after he got done riding it for about 2 hours he took out his fishing pole on it and caught a few. at the end of the day his exact words were im living the dream man that was so much fun. IndianaFinesse Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Just got back from a trip to the u.p. The answer to oddchase's question about if fishing is much better in other states, is definitely yes. The bass are just starting to spawn up there, and the average size bass we caught was just over three pounds. I caught more three plus pound bass in less than one week than I usually do in a month, with the largest 4.9 pounds! Most were caught on a pop-r fished through bulrushes from a kayak, witch makes it even more fun seeing the big bass blow up on the surface and then tow you around. And I know people complain about all of the pike, but personally I love having some mean old pike mixed in. Most of the pike were just little snot rockets, but a couple were good sized fish. I also booked a charter trip for walleyes, and in less than a half a day we caught 25, and for the last hour trolled for pike. We didn't catch pike, but three tiny~15 inch muskie nailed our spoons. It was nice to just get away from people and enjoy nature, plus catch some really nice fish. 2 Quote

IndianaFinesse Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Fished for about two hours today. It was kind of disappointing catching a bunch of little dinks and only a couple over fifteen inches after getting used to Michigan's good fishing. I caught eighteen bass with only three good ones and the biggest measured twenty inches. All fish came in the trd fished with a swim glide and shake retrieve in four to eight feet of water. Most were on steep rip rap shorelines near and on points, with some underneath docks when the sun was high. Water temperature is up to 76 degrees here, so the bass should be moving to there summer areas soon. 2 Quote
Crutch Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Ended up going out to North Twin Lake, couldn't hardly find the area to launch my canoe. Got out on the water and the first thing I noticed was that there was hardly any grass growing and the bottom was incredibly sandy. Great for swimming, didn't seem to be too great for fishing. I ended up catching two little dinks on a bone colored rapala shadow rap in around 8-10' of water right off of some dropoffs. 2 Quote
neocrunch Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I spent about nine hours kayak fishing Summit Lake yesterday. It was cool and very windy. By the end of the day I was exhausted and sea sick. I could barely get out of bed this morning. LOL I caught a few bass on a whopper plopper early in the morning before switching to the Ned rig. Several times throughout the day I had large bass hooked on the Ned but they tossed the hook when jumping out of the water. It seemed to be more frequent when using a mushroom jig with weed guard wires so I switched back to a 1/15 without the wire guards. On another note, I feel like I'm suffering from tunnel vision. I've gotten so hooked on the Ned rig that I'm not fishing with my other tackle as much. Like I've learned how to use a hammer and now everything is a nail. I really need to force myself to develop more skills/confidence using jigs, swimbaits, jerkbaits, texas-rigged plastics, etc. 3 Quote
FastVette Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Hey guys, anyone have any luck on Chain Of Lakes or anywhere near Fort Wayne? I'll probably end up at CoL on Monday or Tuesday next week, not sure about anywhere else local though. Quote

I know I sure was the first time I tried it two years ago, and I expected it to be just a gimmick. If you have any questions on how to use the Ned rig, just ask us. Got out this afternoon for about four hours. I tried a Ned rig modification called the "zeach-z" recommended by bluebasser. It's basically a little over half a zinkerz that has the tail cut length wise through the middle up to just behind the hook so that it has more action. I caught 43 bass, all of them on the zeach-z skipped underneath docks on or near points with rip rap shorelines in two to ten feet of water. I also hooked a monster something that broke my line, my guess would be a big walleye because the line broke an inch above the bait and not at the leader knot like it usually does. The line didn't have any frays in it, and I didn't feel it rub the line on anything so I think that it's teeth cut it. 2 Quote

I believe Z-man makes a bait similar to the one you're making called the Hula StickZ. It's not exactly the action your custom made bait would produce, but I imagine it would work almost as well! 2 Quote

That's Schoaff lake in Franke Park by the zoo......about a 2-3 minute drive from my house. Local reports I'd seen said that it's pretty dry for bass, but they're older too. The dam he's fishing is probably Rousch Reservoir Dam just south of Huntington, or perhaps a little farther south on Salamonie's dam. I've fished below both, struck out below the Salamonie dam because I wasn't prepared and had never been, and below the Rousch dam it's mainly drum with the random sport fish tossed in. I'll be getting out to both for sure once I quit working overtime so much, lol. Quote

Picture starting with the scissors at the back of the bait and cutting it length wise up to the hook. Then cutting one of the halves off, leaving the plastic not on the hook shank cut in half. The video is on page one of the 2016 icast wish list. 1 Quote

Most came on a pointer, some on swim jig, some on Ned. I fished the same lake on Sunday and lost count it was so good. The largest was a 5.5. I guess that's the difference between a W wind (Sunday) and a NW wind (Tuesday). Looking back to Tuesday, I probably should have fished creek mouths instead of the main lake and coves. 3 Quote

Kevinator1 Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 What's up fellers! I'm usually on the other parts of the forum and just now came upon my fellow Indiana brothers on here....how the heck is everybody? Just my background....I fish Geist, Morse, Summitt (the dead sea) West Boggs and a few other lakes around Indiana. Geist is my honey hole though. 2 Quote
