So the wife just brought home a Samsung tablet she got for free from att.

It's seems to be a piece of crap as it can't keep up with my typing speed and keeps crashing on this forum. So what brand does everyone use that works the cheaper the better.

Samsung Galaxy Tab2

iPad Mini

iPad

Acer A100

No issues with any of them. I use a laptop or desktop most the time for forums since they have larger keyboards.

Depends what "cheap" means to you. My wife had a kindle fire for a couple years and had no issues. She still uses it for books. I got her an iPad Air2 and its heads and shoulders a better device and gets used for everything aside from book reading. If you can swing it, if recommend  the the ipad mini or a previous gen ipad.

My kids have an iPad mini for each, my daughter´s crashes every now and the when I use it to access BR and Gamespot, my son´s doesn´t, both are the same model, go figure why one works well and the other one doesn´t. :undecided:

Hello,

I've played with cheap tablets, the Chinese versions, generally Allwinner.

They work OK.  The charging systems break in 6mos to a year, but they do work for as long as they charge.

The problem is bloatware and spyware.  I unlocked/jail broke/gained administrator privileges on one to get rid of that crap.

I followed it all the way down into the root directory.  When I deleted them from the root directory, the tablet stopped working.

Let me phrase that a different way:  Spyware/Adware is part of the operating system of some (most?) of these cheap tablets, and cannot be erased without bricking the device.

That would be like Windows running a Trojan SAM in its root directory, with the file being required to run.

To make it more fun, the Android version was altered just enough to run on this hardware that no other version I could find would run.

Cheap tablets might work well, but there's a mighty big tradeoff.  I'm personally looking at the Samsung models.

Ah thanks for the heads up Josh!

The wife isn't having any problem with the Samsung at the moment. Il try it again In a few mins. The net was laging bad earlier may have been the problem.

Selecting anything from the "Cheap but Works" category is always a risky proposition at best; especially electronics.

When reading reviews of such products, the number of happy customers is often dramatically overwhelmed by those who are not.

A few months back, as an anniversary gift, I got my wife the Venue 10 7000 Series (32GB) + Keyboard  ~ super nice item that's extremely versatile.

Not the cheapest model but it does work very well.

Get yourself a refurbished iPad from Apple. Their refurbished warranty is the same as new purchases. I happily own a refurb'd MacBook Pro & iPad.

Just got an Apple IPad mini 2 with Retina display. Outstanding product with very fast operating speed, picture, and battery life. The difference lies in the storage space within this series. I bought the model with very low storage space new for $195

Previous Gen Ipad Mini. Too bad I already sold mine ;)

That or a Kindle Fire is your best bet.

Mrs Mike and I have the Galaxy Tab 3 and really like it. So much so that I can't remember the last time we both used our laptop's or even the desk top
