Weight opinion

Hey guys! I caught my personal best bass over the summer in South Jersey. When I landed the fish, my scale wasn't working so I measured it instead. The measurement was 20 1/2 inches, but im wondering how much it could have possibly weighed. The reason I am wondering, is because I might want to get a fiberglass mount, but I don't know if its too small. I know this is kind of a stupid question, but I thought asking couldn't hurt.

What I did was, I looked on eBay for a skin mount the same size as the fish I released. Then once I found one the same size, I won the auction. The mount is not perfect, but it was CHEAP, the fish it commemorates is still swimming, and it looks NICE on my wall.

Nice catch none the less. Congrats on your PB. Based on the pic the bass looks to me in the 4.5 - 5 lb range.

That is a 5-5.25 pound bass.

I'd call it 5 pounds. Not much of a gut but she has shoulders. Nice fish!

Around here it typically goes

18 inches=3 pounds

19 inches=4 pounds

20 inches=5 pounds

That fish has the summertime skinny look going though so I'm right there with Lou and Darren in the 4.5-5 pound range. Nice fish regardless of the weight though.

Seems like I remember using a formula that went like this: Length times Girth [squared] divided by 800. Berkley (or somebody) used to include a cloth "fish tape" when you bought some of their line.
