Apparently though you will only call Shimano out for using marketing terms? I'm very familiar with Tackletour as I'm much more active there. I like how you go back and change and add to your post after I've already quoted it. Please explain how I will only call out shimano for using marketing terms. I was simply stating the fact that hagane is a sales gimmick. Someone was questioning what it actually meant and said he thought it had something to do with the gearing. Some people actually care about facts and what a reel is actually made of.

I don't use daiwa reels exclusively or say they are better. And why are they silly? I hate to break it to you but no other reel manufacturer even comes close to shimano when it comes to gimmicky sales catch phrases. But yes daiwa would come in second place in that category. I'd still like someone to answer my question as to how older shimano reels suddenly have this new hagane technology. No, I know exactly who I'm addressing when I say "silly Daiwas". And I hate to break it to you, but Ive bought the Daiwa Japan fishing catalogs for the past 7+ years and they have just as many if not more marketing terms as Shimano.

Editing a post to prove my point a bit better and you think you've stumbled upon some great revelation? lol And show me where you've called out another company's marketing terminology. Since I don't think anyone on this board is fluent in Japanese then nobody is going to be able to explain what the exact definition is but that link I provided gives the best explanation I could find but I doubt you even went to it.

Have to agree. According to what I read, Bantam1 said the gearing is cold-forged aluminum. However, he also says this: Quote There are several other improvements on the FK over the previous models. Also with each generation they improve the gearing. The new drive gear is thicker than the previous model and Sustain. It is still a cold forged aluminum gear, but with some improvements. This was mainly done for the inshore applications to boost gear durability even further. So there are some differences, but by and large, Hagane is a new trademark for their cold forged gearing. Quote Hagane is the new global TM for the cold forged gear.

Dang man relax. And I still don't know what you mean by saying my silly daiwas. I own all brands of reels. Yes I went to the shimano ad you posted. It just proves my point, it's nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

Reels with an aluminum or magnesium frame are now listed as having a hagane body.
Super User iabass8 Posted December 28, 2015 Super User Posted December 28, 2015 I thought Hagane is now taking the place of their older "Paladin technology"..if I read what little I could find on it correctly. So if their Paladin gearing was cold forged aluminium..and Hagane is a slight upgrade or w/e to it..their gearing is Hagane but some of their body materials are also Hagane as well making their framing materials (that are alluminium) made of the same materials that their gears are even if the reels /w xship are using brass gears? I'm so F$%#$ing confused. I quit.

The sustain fg was listed as having paladin gearing since it came out on shimano's site. Now the same reel is listed as having hagane gearing, it's not upgraded they just changed the name. The sustain is also listed as having a hagane body now also.
