buzzcatcher Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Just wondering everyones opinion. I would rather repaint a good name brand lure with a known track record than to spend hours painting those $1.50 blanks that don't perform like they should and are worthless. JMO Buzz Quote
CCP Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I repaint brand name lures. I have seen several blanks with imperfections and some that are not even straight. Quote
BIG M Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Even the best name brands turn out duds. You do normally get what you pay for though. I only paint Big M originals, so I'm always working with the best ;D Quote
BobP Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I've tried various unpainted blanks. Unless you are willing to weed through a bunch of Chinese duds to find the occasional OK crankbait, don't waste your time. That it LOOKS like a $20 high end Japanese bait means absolutely zero. The internal ballasting and chambering, mold quality, etc are going to be different - and not in a good way! That said, there are a few unpainted bodies that I've tried and like. But like Marty says - if you want a great crankbait, you have to make it all yourself. Or at least buy a high quality bait and repaint it. Quote
