A few years back I purchased two Browning Midas reels with magnetic and centrifugal brakes both adjustable externally with a dial for each of them. A dial within a dial. Never seen this on any reel before, but apparently Dawon patented it their website you linked to above says. Both reels are still smooth to use and palm well too. Working on the brake system is a bear! You gotta align 4 small springs at one time to get it back together. Working on the reel is same as any other, but beware of the tiny little springs in brake system! I learned to reassemble this section without the magnets, and once the spring situation is reinstalled correctly to then install the magnets last as the magnets will attract those little springs making them impossible to align or stay in place for reassembly. But when in working condition, this reel works well. I have to wonder if Shimano was playing catch up to Dawon by creating their own externally adjustable centrifugal brakes? This reel had them before shimano did which is why I bought a couple of them. This patented externally adjustable braking system moves a 3 level drum in and out with the external adjustment. Each level of the drum is a slightly larger circumference as can be seen in the Bass Pro ad below from the Dawon website gallery. " We have developed our own braking systems that are all patented to give more convenience to each valued angler when fishing with our reels - Externally adjustable centrifugal braking system and Externally adjustable DUAL (magnetic + centrifugal) braking system. " Same screw, same location. This new titanium 8 reel has a lot of similarities with other reels made by Dawon: Like this Browning Citori comparable reel: Quote
James Pondscum Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Have a couple of those. They are one of my favorite reels. How much different are the bps carbon lite they have a duel dial brake system as well? Quote

The JM Carbonlites are about the exact same reel as the Browning Midas and Citori. Same manufacturer Dawon. Same location for manufacturer in South Korea. Same technology. Same build. Same client of the Korean manufacturer too: Bass Pro! Bass Pro purchased Browning in 2005. So you are basically buying the exact same reel from the same seller Bass Pro marketed under two different brand names for very different prices too. The Browning you can buy today used for less than $50.00 and often for under $40.00 because no one wants to touch a Browning, but the same reel marketed as a signature Johnny Morris reel Carbonlite series and now the price for a used reel is twice as much or more than the Browning. Save and get the Browning! Just sayin'! 1 Quote

Jaderose Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 That titanium 8 is in the 2016 Catalog Quote
krakenbass Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 First and foremost I work in the industry and one of my coworkers was an engineer for several Korean reel manufacturers. Dawon and Doyo both make reels for BPS. At the current moment, most of BPS reels are made by Dawon, but the pro qualifier and signature series reel are Doyo. The orginal Pfueger Patriarchs and all lews reels are made by Doyo. Some, but not all, of the newer lews and doyo reels have the same screw hump on the gear side plate and frame so using that as your reasoning for why it's a Dawon reel isn't good enough. Also Dawon doesn't currently offer one of their own branded reels with that frame configuration, but reel manufacturers are known to make one-off reels, like the Johnny Morris signature series reel. Doyo only makes that reel for bass pro and no one else and does not offer one of their own brand reels in that configuration. After looking at the online 2016 catalog I can say for a fact that it is a Dawon reel. The giveaway was the palm side plate and break dial configuration. It has the same breaking system that is only found on Dawon manufactured reels. Had I not seen the pic in their catalog I would have said it was Doyo based on all it's other traits. 1 Quote
