WI_Angler1989 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I'm gonna be in the market for a higher end reel, roughly $200. I've always been a Pfleuger guy personally, having used the President line for years with great results. So while I love Pfleuger, I'm open to other brands. I know Shimano has a great reputation as well. I've been looking at the Pfleuger Patriarch and Shimano Stradic FK. Anyone who has experience the Patriarch or the older FJ model, what's your take? Performance, durabikuty, how well has it held up over time, etc. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted December 19, 2015 Super User Posted December 19, 2015 I wouldn't overlook the EXO 25 or 30 either. May be able to find them around $100 right now instead of their list price of $199.99. Just another brand and reel to look at. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Pflueger spinning reels are great bang for the buck. Stradic are a very good reel too if you want to try something different. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted December 19, 2015 Super User Posted December 19, 2015 I can speak for the Stradic models. Excellent reels period. I've got FI and FJ models and can say that the FJ models are superior. When researching the FJ and new FK models, some forum guys (elsewhere) said that there's not too much difference between the two. That said, if you can find an FJ on the "cheap", I'd grab it. Personally, I like the Shimano feel over the Pflueger, but that's in my hands. You may love one. Quote
k3bass Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I would say find a new stradic fj or check out the jdm Daiwa luvias or if your willing to spend a little more the jdm Daiwa certate. Or if your happy with the president reels and they work for you, stick with them. Quote
jbw252 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I, too, like Pflueger spinning reels and own several. I recently got a Stradic Ci4+ 2500. Great reel - strong, light, smooth casting & has a good drag. I'm surprised that Darren didn't mention the Daiwa Lexa 2000sh. In many posts he has sung it's praises, which influenced me to check them out. I purchased one & enjoy using it, especially when out on the kayak. The Lexa is smooth & well built. It has a heavier feel, which seems durable & solid. Good luck in your hunt. 1 Quote
WI_Angler1989 Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 Thanks for all the info everyone! Tons of good advice. It seems like my problem is that they don't do trial runs haha. I need to use one and see if it feels good and either keep it or get the other one. I've heard the Patriarchs have issues wearing down quickly compared to stradic. Quote
